I do just as well pump versus electro on speedball fields as anyone else does. I get shot out a lot, but I almost always take one or two down with me.

You could be the best shot in the world, but a pumper snapping against an electric is going to lose 9 out of 10 unless that electric player has really bad fundamentals. Modern paintball is about owning lanes with constant streams of paint. There is hardly room for mechanicals anymore, let alone pumps, and speedball is more strategic than it is given credit. You can't just spray and pray and make it anymore, especially when everyone is spraying and praying. Not to mention, it is easier to shoot opposite handed with an electric. Almost anyone can do it now.

I can see it happening at a local with a lot of mechanical markers though.

NOW, on the other hand, I will give a talented pump player the upper-hand in any scenario situation. In this case, most people just live behind their guns. I have played the Michigan Monster Game the last two seasons with a pump and had much better results, and a lot more fun. I never used to hit anyone with my electric in previous years...just cut down a lot of bushes.

This is just IMO and with all due respect. I love both worlds but am being honest based off of experience. Today's game is very different.
This may all be true at high levels, but in almost every walk-on situation, it's lots of kiddies who think they're the pros, and have all the flashy gear, but little skill. Most rec speedball games I've seen or been involved in (definately not resembling pro or high-level), everyone runs for the nearest bunker & proceeds to try to be the first one to empty their hopper. I rarely see any movement after the break unless one side has a huge advantage. In this environment, you can do a lot of damage with a light pump. They just aren't expecting to face any tactics other than laning & gunfighting. I don't disagree with what you said above, but in rec situations (and some low-level tournies), skill can definately beat out firepower. Paintball, regardless of rate of fire, will always be about angles, communication & teamwork. Most people playing rec ball forget that.

Lets put it this way, I've never had an all pump game. Though I havnt really been playing pump for that long (started last may), and as such I'm still getting my butt handed to me more often than not.

I would say that is one facet of paintball today, and should not be taken as the whole. To do so would be like judging all forms of auto racing based on just Nascar for example

Get yourself one of these, and you will own the field

Played as the only pump on the field for the first time in (more than) 10 years this last weekend. After getting over the fear of being lit up by some electro I had a ball. I was much more focused after I put down my impy. I actually started to aim instead of walking the shots to the target. I won't say that semi is not without its merits, but there should be no fear in going up against someone with "better" technology. I had some kid dump a Halo's worth of balls at me from 15 feet away, I was laughing so hard it took two balls from me to get him out. Just have the sense not to laugh at someone after you take them outwith less paint then they spill with each pod.

I play in a mixed game most of the time, and semi's outnumber the pump players by quite a bit on those occasions. Even so, I have no problems playing against the semi's. As Russ said the all pump days are much more challenging (and more fun). When playing against pump players you can't leave an inch hanging out for more than a second before someone tags it.

Pump against semi is a blast.Last year at EMR Another player and I cleared a building of 4 players. We were both playing with stock class markers. If you are used to spay and pray you will have to change your style of play.I rarely play semi anymore(1 or 2 games a year).

I just picked up a sweet little PGP off ebay to add to my 2 other pumpers (an old, beat-up SL68-II former rental and a P68-SC).

Played with the SL during a mixed... actually, everyone BUT me was shooting a semi. I was hit almost every game but I think I took at least one with me each time. I don't get intimidated by other players at all. I'd gladly challenge a dude toting the latest electro-dumper to a match with my pump. Even if I lost, I know I'm gonna make him work for it. If I got him instead, then I'd offer my hand and thank him for the game.

Limited paint/air is lots of fun but it's hard at first. But like everyone who's mentioned it above, that one shot you take that knocks out someone who's been hosin' down your bunker makes it even sweeter.
