| Post Whore Join Date: May 2006 Location: Valrico, Florida | I'm the only steady pump I know at my local field. And when I can use the PMI Premium I like to run through my Phantom, it's great to see people across a large clearing holding other semis down, and my teammates unable to hit them, it's great to pop off two shots and watch the pink smear. Gotta love that CCI barrel. There's been a couple times when I'll shoot some kid with an electro, watch it break, and then have to duck back as he returns fire. Just until I get a chance, pop out the other side, and mark him again. That seems to work better to educate the Agg Kiddeez than yelling to get a ref on them. |

They look down see the break look up and wonder where the hell that came from. They are so used to getting paint sprayed at them that they think the single ball must have dropped from heaven and accidently hit them. It's like, did someone just shoot that at me or should I just wipe it? |

| Devious Penguin Mod | This is a general comment of my opinion and not a response to any one post, though it does mention more of FadedGlory's points. Commendations for that well written and thoughtful post. Most of it is tangents off of those ideas so here we go... It is true that it is easier to play speed ball with an electric gun, just like it is easier for someone to drive an automatic transmission, or easier for someone to use a machine gun to hit a target instead of a pistol. These are not bad things, but they are simplified for ease of usage. I would argue that the same skilled player, using a well tuned pump or a higher end electric gun, should be just as effective as someone who can win a race with an automatic or manual transmission. Is the fact that almost anyone can do it now really better, and more importantly, do you need 15bps to close a lane? Speedball is strategic, but why does it have to be about ROF? How long does it take you to snap out of your bunker; maybe a fifth of a second if you're quick. So you should be able to shut down that bunker with 5 or 6 balls per second in theory. Being as this is just theory, obviously it usually will take more than that, but how much more is dependent on skill of the player to determine where the shots should be placed. I'm not saying high ROFs are bad, but I would expect that as the skill level of the players goes up the shot count should go down, not higher up. My ramblings anyhow. I know guys who swear by their electros in scenario, (except in the rain) so to each his own. I was looking an electro myself for later this year, which I'll try to play with in the woods, just to see how I like it. I would rather come up against any inexperienced player with a well tuned fast gun, than an experienced one who can play consistently with any gun. The difference is not the marker's consistency, it's the player's. IMO the concept of Modern paintball does not exist, there is Scenario, Rec Ball, and Speedball. Divisions exist within those too. Speedball will never be "today's game," until the majority of players see it that way, and right now that majority is in the bush. Neither will Scenario so no hard feelings there. The majority know paintball as recball and I think that's the way it should be for now, as that's how most players learn to love the game.

There were six of us playing in a nice wood/speed field that we fixed up on some private land. I had been playing semi most of the day and was running low on paint and air. So I decide no matter what, next game I'll be playing with my Splatmaster. We decide to do a one vs. all elimination game. So what that translated out to was, basically, me vs. 5. I decide it'd be even more fun to play with only ten rounds and one 12g (fully expecting to walk off the field wearing more paint than camo). Well, the game went on and, by the grace of the Lord God himself, I won... with five rounds left in my tube. Yeah... I felt good.

| Post Whore Join Date: Apr 2006 | Pump vs. semi is not easy at first. Once you get the hang of it though you'll start making your elims. However as was mentioned above, pump vs. pump is much harder. They not only are reliant on a single shot, but they know all the tricks that you do and maybe even a few more. Take your time and dont get discouraged. You will be shot up quite a bit before you start making your elims. |

I understand what you guys said about all pump games, that is the only way I have played so far and those boys are all good (froggy your one of them). I am going to give it a go this spring and I may even check out the Castle game. Thanks and Cry Havoc!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

| Pumpers use both hands. Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: Nicholasville, KY | Yes pump vs. semi is fun it is how I normally play and I love every second of it. We have a few local tourney teams and one fairly experienced tourney team who plays cfoa. I just love to shoot them. I used to play with them when they were doing "closed practices" as they like to use ramping and the field owner will only allow that when it is team vs. team. They don't let me play anymore. However playing pump against semi will make you soft. As I said it is what i end up doing most of the time. Though we have about 12 occasional pumpers and 8 or so dedicated pumpers now as opposed to the one of a 2 years ago. We usually mix in with the regular semi players. When I play pump vs. pump the first few games are always a shock as the other players can hit what they are aiming. It takes a while to adjust.

| Reap the whirlwind... | Echoing most sentiments here, pump vs. semi can be easy... its pump vs pump that is hard. But even there, I have an advantage, as all the pumpers in my area shoot SC guns, and I am usually on the speedball field with my Illusion. That thing can throw down. Its my preferred speedball gun, as I dont have to worry about 12 grams, shot drop off, or reloading constantly. I can also bunker much easier, and breakshoot. However, in my eyes these days, the Illy is pretty far from the true spirit of pump/SC play that I was so about. So I have picked up my P-68, and use that a lot. I can say the only problem I ever have is when semi's come to bunker me. They know that is my weakness, and they use it often. My advice is out think your opponent. Most (definitely not all) semi players I run into these days no longer think about their surroundings, as they are so used to head to head battles, and holding lanes. If you can do something unexpected, try it. Do things out of the norm of the speedball realm. You will probably catch someone off guard.
