need to borrow OBDII/ABS scanner - midatlantic area

I've got my ABS light on in my car and am due soon for emissions testing so I need to diagnose what's wrong and fix it post haste.

If anyone here has an OBDII scan tool that also does ABS I'd like to borrow it long enough to figure out which sensor is bad.

I can travel just about anywhere from very Southern Pennsylvania all the way down to Northern Virginia. I'll be coming from the Western Baltimore area.

Don't have a genaric scanner, but I didn't think you can fail emmisions for an ABS. Has nothing to do with engine/emmisions.

Maybe try and disconnect the negative cable for a few minutes?
To see if the light would clear. The code could be a history code at this point.

Why not just go to the parts store and have them read the codes and see if it is something that can be easily fixed. If not than just do the negative battery cable trick. The ABS light is probably just a sensor that needs to be replaced

Helps if I fully read...looks like you got it under control

I've cleared the code twice already that way, keeps coming back. And it will fail emissions because it's a code light. worst case scenario I can fix the code using electrical tape (they can't see the light, it passes) but with the light on, the ABS is non-functional, correct?

Oh, and Skipjack, it stinks that you don't have the generic, I think you work at the place that's right at the end of the street I life on.

Unfortunately, the scanners that the parts stores let you use don't scan the ABS codes

Didnot think emmisions testing was a de-facto "safety"inspection station.
Never had a car come in failing for an non-check engine light.

I have seen the tape used, successfully for a check engine light.
Just ground yourself every once in awhile when you take apart the instrument panel cluster.

I work in Burtonsville, off of rt.29.

If need be, get a deferal(can't recall the actual term) from the inspection station. Got away with being 3 months past due.
The guy behind the counter helped out by asking if I "had an family emergency that prevented the inspection?".
I said yes, and he signed a form and told me to get in line.

Cool thanks for the help.

On a slightly unrelated note, may I please be allowed to use the damn fool who last installed my wheels as a lever? Apparently his impact wrench only had the "He-Man" setting and I can't get the lug nuts loose. Gah!

Do you still need this? I am fairly certain mine will do it for you. I travel to NoVA all the time. In fact I need to head to Baltimore next week to do some work as well.

Let me know

I was able to borrow one, thanks!

Turns out that I was getting a code due to having a dirty fuse under the hood. Doh!
