Looks like I get to keep my cookie!

"Mid-Realm Adventures" was the name given to the park originally. It was a "Dungeons and Dragons" place, and that's why the castle and bridge were built. The "D&D" players got into paintball somehow, and sort of ran a hybrid metamorphsis of the two. When I played there for the first time, there were players carrying "swords" made from PVC pipe and duct tape.

One of the most endearing aspects of that park was the fact that we, as hard-core tournament players could play there for a RELAXING day of paintball. We used to say that they didn't play paintball there, they played "Army", which was totally cool in our opinion. After weeks of practicing against the Geese, Gang Green and the like, it was nice to NOT play tournament style ball.

AG has that "vibe", a rec park where you play for fun. I guess it's always had it, and the new ownership has improved on it in my opinion. Last years season was short, so there's more good things to come out of that park this year.

Ah.. I wasn't sure of the name.

Saturday was the D&D guys day, and Sunday was the paintball playing days as I remember it.

I can't wait to get back there this year.

We had one kid back in high school... Brian somebody.. He was big into the D&D stuff. He used to make chain maille in his spare time, and go there on Saturdays for those "games" or whatever they actually did. Role play? Don't know... and didn't ask.

The old owner was Tom Cook.. That's who you were thinking of Paul

LOL.. I don't even remember that stuff. Back then I played more at Triad, Seacoast and Van-Houtons.

Tom Cook was awesome though. Lots of field owners can be jerks, and arrogant. Tom was very laid back, and just loved paintball. Cynthia was the anti-Tom. Though you probobly need both types to run a good business effectively.

That's the "understatement of the year"!!

Though, to be honest, I never had any problem with Cynthia, but she did have a few run-ins with some of the guests I brought up to the park. Some, never played there again. She does have a reputation as being "prickly".

Yes mutant wars...thats what we used to call them.... You'd go out on the field with a pvc sword...battle axe whatever and you were immune to certain colors of paint.Thats why you had "other" weapons to score "hits" with. That was some real good fun! Brian Kunst I believe was the talented maker of chain maille.I learned how to make it from him.Damn I should go look throuogh my old boxes in the attic to see if I still have any pictures.

It was a love/hate thing for me during the 90s.

First, I admired how well she ran the business side. Very shrewd about finances, marketing, retail, inventory, etc. She ran an extremely tight ship, which is saying alot since I don't think she even liked paintball.

But at the same time, we were the "field team" in the early/mid 90s. In exchange for store discounts, we would work at the field (as refs/store/fills/etc). Every year, the discount became worse, and she required us to work more and more for it.

We eventually realized that she was taken advantage of the fact that we loved paintball so much, that reffing didn't seem like work, and she was basically getting free labor out of us. We got to a point where she pushed us past our limits, and we walked.

I remember being angry about it for a while, but I have to be honest.... I don't think AGNH would still be around it if wasnt for Cynthia.

Cynthia drove me out of the woods and it to speedball after she banned me, at the time I was bummed, but now I'm glad I made the transition.
