Grinding 007 pierce pin?

I'm pretty sure I remember reading somewhere that you can grind a 007 pierce pin to help stop leaks without relying on the puncture seal. Any particular techniques?

Also, do Phantom puncture seals work as replacements?

Never heard about grinding the pin...

The Phantom seals are a suitable replacement.

I think the only thing you might get by grinding the pierce pin is:

1. A pin that won't pierce as well

or

2. A pin that is sharper and pierces well...but then gets bent and buggered up so it no longer works at all.

Your best bet is a better seal.

maybe they are talking about grinding the puncture pin to match the puncture pins that are on the early model 007s that didn't have the seal like the later model 007s.

I guess I'll stick with phantom seals, then. Hopefully my no-seal Nelly gasses up without any trouble.

My '83 Nelspot has the no-seal pin and it works just fine with no leaks unless you really crank the pierce knob down way past the point where it pierces. But that's just because you're forcing the 12 gram beyond the taper of the pin which is what makes the seal with the metal of the 12 gram.

What are the flaws of the seal free system? Sounds great. Does it not work with some 12ies or something?

As far as I can tell, the disadvantage is that it's less "combat" friendly. I noticed that my seal-less Nelly would sometimes leak if I bumped it.
