information on a 68 special.

alright. i bought this 68 special from relief. its EXACTLY like the first marker i ever used, it even kicks like i remember. having been said: i need to know everything about it: specifically i need tear down, cleaning and oiling instructions, and the most important thing: my research says that it needs to use liquid CO2, but will it work properly with gas? i dont think i could find a working siphon tank, let alone a place to refill liquid CO2. basically blank slate looking for as much info as possible. Thanks for all the help.

cheers all

Well, actually. Everytime you fill a CO2 tank, liquid CO2 is going into the tank. So there is no difference in that regard. And syphon tanks are still around, I bet someone on here has one that you could take off of their hands. Put up a WTB ad and see what turns up. I had one for a little while, but ended up selling it soon after to raise money for a phantom, so I do not know the complete ins and outs of the gun.

Search this forum and you can find diagrams on 68's, it will help in the tear down process. As for liquid C02, yup a 68 craves it and your velocity will suffer greatly if you run gas instead. I still have mine from 1987, still works like a charm. Damn near unbreakable. As for a siphon tank Bacci's sale has siphon tubes and fittings for sale. Buy yourself a new tank and install the fittings or take them to a dive shop and have them install it for you. Then I hope you enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed mine.

if the gun is working and doesn't leak, don't take it apart.

if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

i guess if you feel the need to tear it down, go for it. just be careful with the air line.

c6, i did a VERY basic tear down, and oiled what o-rings i could see, the only thing i did was take off the linkage arm, and removed the two bolts in the front. it still cycles, and it still works nicely, but i did notice that it was making a wierd metallic klink sound when it cycles. is that normal?
also, the syphon tank, will a normal fill station be able to fill it? how much would the parts and service run to make one?
im looking for info to know if i should turn this into a polished show piece or if i can use this at the field.

The only difference between a syphon tank and a regular tank is that there is a hose that hangs down into the liquid CO2. There is no difference in filling anti-syphon tanks, regular tanks, or syphon tanks, they are all filled the same.

that doesn't sound abnormal so i think your alright there.

yes, a normal fill station will fill a syphon tank. it's no different than filling a regular tank. it shouldn't cost much... $10 or so...

use it. it's not going to be a polished show piece.

i dont know... the reciever is in very good shape, it wouldnt take much for a coat of paint and some polish, the only problem is someone vented the 14 inch barrel VERY badly, but with some work... it will make a serviceable 12.5 inch. should be interesting, and i think ill get the parts and make a syphon tank.
so that noise is normal then? good, i was worried that i might have done some damage when i oiled it. Thanks for the help all.

oh yeah.. is there anything else i should know? something that might wierd or odd compared to other more modern markers?
