Local flavor?

Years ago I used to shoot IPSC at an indoor range. To keep the competitions fresh the organizers would change the theme and the challenges to reflect the theme... It was still the same basic concept but the theme gave it a bit of flavor.

ok, fast forward to outlaw paintball..

We do themes - and take one or two rec-games and rework them to reflect the story line of a movie, video game, current events or similar..
Some of the favorites: Hunger Games, Zombie Land, Lindsay Lohan, Walking Dead, Call of Duty, Apocalypse Now.

We also use a gimic for the last set of defenders to pick the next set of defenders.. kind of getting some pay back.

We have also used a game randomizer - (like dice) allowing chance to pick the next game from a menu of games.

We also frequently change the field layout - adding and moving bunkers, altering boundary.

We also use fireworks to demo objectives.

We also bring a boombox to provide some custom mixed theme oriented music/ background audio tracks.

The whole idea is trying to add flavor to the games - and to the community of players - to keep it fresh.

Im looking for new ideas here -- what does your field do to keep things fresh? Was it fun?

We would mix it up by creating odd teams and then giving terrain advantages.

At one point we built a small team (50% fewer players) of players that would make up a sort of dream team (it was everyone who normally didn't get to play together for balance reasons. ie, both ghillie suits the players with the most in depth field knowledge, etc.) This small force had to attack from a side of the field that, due to its very rough and exposed terrain, had always led to defeat for the team assigned to it.

So really it was the classic "A few really good players vs a hoard of regulars", but the large force was bolstered by a historically impenetrable terrain advantage. That battle was probably the most fun I've ever had in this sport. It forced the teams to really think about their strategies and get creative.

Along that line, you might try adding a 'commander' to each side that is willing to undertake unorthodox strategies. That sort of thing created some pretty intense battles for us on otherwise drab fields.

We have played a game where you have two teams at each end of a trail (we use the Trail of Doom, so that is the name of the game). The flags are at the starting point, and you have to pass by the other team, to get to their flag to win the game... You are only allowed to go 10 feet from the edge of the trail on either side.

So you pretty much have to hide and hope they don't see you! Or just try and bust through by shooting out the other team. Man is it stressful, but a VERY fun game. I had one of my buddies on the other team get within 3 feet of me and not see me! I scared him bad when I finally asked if he wanted to surrender!

You need a big long trail so that you can't see either team on the start.

You can mix it up by adding a medic to each team, who can bring players back in after they are shot. But if the medic is shot in the head, he is out for the game. Each player can only be brought back from a body shot ONE time. Headshots are instant eliminations from games.

I've got a satchel charge bag full of whiffle balls. These are for the medic. He throws a ball and hits u, u are healed. if he missed you can crawl in agony to the ball and u are healed. Hand tags work too, but the whole medic ball thing is a lot of fun.

So if you touch the medic's balls you are healed? I will just sit out until the next game after I am hit.

We have a tower up that the far north end of the 18 acre field.. call it the Betty Ford center.

We have a building at the south end.. at it the Winchester.

The paparazzi try to rescue Lindsay from rehab, take her for a drink, and get her home.

the guards have like 3 spawn points all over the field.. which makes things tough. .. its kind of a variation on the presidents game.

Sorry for the bump on the old(er) thread, but I've been looking for a thread like this =D

We play an "AVP" game - Aliens VS Predators. Your Alien team is half the Predator team. "Aliens" get one deadbox respawn (30 seconds), meaning as an "alien" you need to be hit twice to be out. When a Predator gets hit, however, they immediately become an "alien" with one hit left. Makes an interesting game if an Alien manages to tag a Predator who is behind a bunch of other Predators.

We're also thinking of doing a "Capture the Flag" game where the flag is so big, it has to be handled by two hands. IE: one of those super-large exercise balls. Rules are: You can't throw, kick, or otherwise move the flag unless it's being carried. Unlimited "dead box" respawns (game's only over when one base has the other's flag in the base.) If you're the flag carrier, you can't shoot unless you put the flag on the ground, but you CAN use the flag as a shield. Riccochet's off of the flag that hit team-mates still count as kills.

I'd love to hear the rules for your "hunger games" game. We were thinking of doing a "hunger games" scenario where it's free-for-all, everyone starts pretty far away from everyone else, and everyone starts with 3 rounds of paint. The rest of the paint is all stored in the middle of the field. Plot twist? If you get hit, no matter what you're hit with, you have to leave your paint behind (pour it into a provided pod or something and leave that pod where you got hit.)

Would love to hear more rules variations!

Sorry for the delay.. but here it is. If you watched the first movie all of the tributes started the game in pairs surrounding the cornucopia. Then the clocked ticked down and they ran for weapons. Factions formed, and broke.

Here is our local adaptation (granted it has gone through a few iterations and lost some connection to the storyline) - we call it Hot Date

Field setup:
Castle is in middle of field.
Waffle House is located 250 ft away from the castle to the North. Any structure will do.
Instant spawn is located 250 ft away from the castle to the West.
Players spawn in pairs. Your new partner does not have to be your original partner.

Pre-game:
Every one loads up with 25 paintballs.
Lindsey Lohan goes in the castle. (We use a big plushy for Lindsey)
Pacts and factions are allowed.
The tributes pair up 50 feet away from the castle in a circle spaced out in pairs.

Game start:
"Put your guns on the ground"
"OK, now everyone take 10 steps back"
"When u hear the first horn you run. When you hear the second horn u shoot. The tribute that successfully escorts Lindsey to Waffle House for a HOT DATE wins. If you get shot while on your date, drop her and go spawn."

Variation#1: Lindsey's Father is at home (in the castle) and pissed off.
Variation#2: Put a bunch of full 10 round tubes around the castle.
