I am not talking about the players themselves. I am talking about these "sponsorship packages" that companies have reverted to.

Well said Russ. People these days are only into it for a few years at most.

after talking to party about it last night, i put into words what i had in my head the whole time. while technically this is a "sponsorship" logically its not. these kids dont sign a contract, and the sponsor doesnt support them at events in any way.

It's good marketing if nothing else.

It isn't a bad deal at all if the whole team can commit to the package deal. All package deals must go through a retail store/Paintball Field. You must choose what store/field you would like to get the package at.

So it helps the teams we sponsor locally plus they can get all the items through me. The only thing I do not like is all these cheap packages are going to end up on ebay or the b/s/t forums, which will once again take away from stores/fields that sell gear.

That's why we need pants that self-destruct after 20 months.

Well its not a true sponsorship if you have to pay for. It is a good marketing idea to get there gear on the field and sell some product. Cant fault them for that. I do see some of this gear getting sold off.

Something no one's mentioned yet is that this promotion encourages players to form and play as teams. That means more players playing more often out of loyalty and obligation- which I think means everyone wins.

That is a pretty big leap. I don't think package deals or sponsorships really relates to long term growth.
