I remember when Halos sold for $150, now you can buy them for $50 used. Give it a while the market will flood with used ones and before you know it you'll be posting a WTB ad for an outdated Rotor as the newest, latest and greatest will be out.

After they recoup their tooling investment or before? Typically a company will not invest more in tooling than the first year's (or two) estimated profits. Assuming that's the case with Dye, how much do you think the rotor will cost after two years? I think I understand what you're saying though. That thing looks cheap cheap cheap to manufacture... I would estimate $120,000 in tooling and design... maybe $25 to produce including packaging if their volume is over 1k per year.

No no, it's so they can afford the buyout of smart parts.

Doesnt affect me much. I really like DYE stuff.... but generally I dont buy it until 4-5 years after it comes out. It's much cheaper that way.

I no longer buy Dye stuff, cept maybe a 684 or smaller CF Boomstick, maybe a 682 UL back if they had them. Dye quality has gone down over years IMO. They already outsource most of their stuff out of country. There is really no way to justify their increased prices.

I've got no problem with a company pricing things in such a way that they can remain in business, but its seems to me that from a PR standpoint this is going to be a nightmare for them.

As for Rotor being class leader- while it does seem to be the new "must-have" hopper, I think you're getting more for your money with a Prophecy. Only real advantage the Rotor has is a slightly lower profile and the quick disassembly. As far as actually loading goes, the Prophecy appears to win from anything I've seen.

Maybe the price increase was because Fischer-Price wouldn't make the Rotor for them anymore

I'd guess that the reasons behind the price hikes are more likely connected to the weak dollar.
