Well, would carrying an SKS with 30rd clip on your back via a sling be illegal in NY? I mean, its a rifle. I use one for coyote and other varmint (and occasionally deer) hunting.

In Mass, you have to all but give a blood sample and your entire family history. The prostate check part of the application is highly unpleasant. I am plenty happy with my toys. Would like to play with a Thompson though

A month to get a carry permit?

No, that only actually takes about fifteen minutes to do in pa depending on the line at the Sheriff's office.

I thought there was a 5 day waiting period for hand guns (federal) law?

Did I miss something?

yes the sunset of the Brady bill along with some states requirements for permits being more stringent and thus superceding any waiting requirements

Some states have waiting periods, but it is not a Federal law. The instant check is.

Wow, I'm really lucky to live in OK. We don't have to go through all of that bull some states/cities do. While I only own some shotguns, a rifle, and a muzzle loader, I plan to someday get a pistol and conceal carry license.

In Michigan, you must complete a purchase permit for each handgun you intend to buy (and pay a fee). Then you go to gun store with permit and purchase gun. Or, if you have a concealed carry permit you get to skip that step and walk into any gun store and buy as many handguns as you want, whenever you want. Its the best part of our CCW law in my oppinion. To get a CCW you need to take a class and do some minor paper work etc., but it isn't terribly expensive or hard to do.

The only bothersome part of buying a handgun is that no matter how it is acquired (CCW or purchase permit) you need to go back to the police within X days and get the "safety" inspection. Its a backdoor quasi registration scheme. At least it costs me nothing but time and possibly a little bit of privacy, but not much.

This is good news. I never understood how they got by on the "militia" argument considering that according to U.S. legal code title 10 section 311 the militia consists of all able bodied male citizens over 17 years old:
Quote:
(a) The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied
males at least 17 years of age and, except as provided in section
313 of title 32, under 45 years of age who are, or who have made a
declaration of intention to become, citizens of the United States
and of female citizens of the United States who are members of the
National Guard.

(b) The classes of the militia are -
(1) the organized militia, which consists of the National Guard
and the Naval Militia; and
(2) the unorganized militia, which consists of the members of
the militia who are not members of the National Guard or the
Naval Militia.
So according to this you only have to be a male citizen over age 17 to be considered part of the "unorganized militia".

I mean, come on!!! Who wouldn't want a hand grenade just to try once!! Ah.. what I wouldn't give.
I know you're not being totally serious, but you know you can legally own hand grenades and 40mm grenades/launchers. They're classified as "destructive devices" and you have to go through the same process and pay the same $200 tax as you do to get silencers or full autos. Most people don't bother though because its such a hassle and prohibitively expensive since each round for a 40 mm grenade launcher is considered a destructive device and requires the paperwork/tax.

A few states consider it an "assault weapon", which is pretty ridiculous.

The SKS is one of the most popular deer-rifles in the country. The ballistics are almost IDENTICAL to a 30-30 round, but without any recoil.

Its very accurate, and fairly bomb proof.
The only issue I had with mine is that, it took me weeks to figure out why my scope kept loosing its zero. It was tightened properly, and didn't appear to be defective... Eventually, someone else at the range said "Hey, do you released your brass is deflecting off the side of the scope??"... ahh.... after I got a brass deflector, it was the perfect deer gun.
