I see one issue right away. The pins that hold the sear in place come under great strain. The aluminum bodies on the m98 oblong and make the pins wiggle in 2 years or less in the case of markers made in the past 3-4 years. The result is the ever famous, 'rapid fire' because the sear cannot hold the hammer back when the pins wiggle.
We've never had that issue of oblonging in the rentals at work, they are pushing 6 years.... Rapid firing yes, but new sear (maybe hammer if real bad) and they are fine. I can honestly say I have never seen that oblonging, I want to now.

For $100 can hardly go wrong though.

Not much here to see.....possibly the ultimate new player gun.....the fact that there's not much to see is what speaks for it.

But I do hate the colors....badly.

But for $100, I bet new players won't mind breaking out the 'ol rattle can and making their gryphon theirs with a color scheme that they prefer

Considering the enthusiasm for customizing the 98-series stuff, I imagine people will come up with a dozen recipes for paint that sticks.

I also imagine that, if these sell well and last a while, we'll see the 98 bodies move to composite--or be replaced entirely with a "Gryphon Tactical" sort of thing.

Composites might actually be better than the aluminium M98 bodies for stress loads; composite can have some "give" whereas aluminium tends to stay deformed after stress/impact loads. So the oblonging of the later, cheaper clamshells might be mitigated by the ability to "bounce back" some. I would expect they'd use inserts to spread the loads around if needed as well.

I like this. I wouldn't buy one, but if I had a friend getting into paintball, I'd seriously consider it. I also see these being aimed at rental and loaner fleets after they've gotten a (hopefully good) track record.

Actually, the biggest obstacle to this thing (to me, anyway) is the legacy of the (non)-Triumph.

I think the thing that everyone on all of these sites forgets is that we're not the target market for these. It's the 11 and 12 year olds who've never played before and want to, but who's parents don't want something that looks like a m-16 or actual gun.
The Gryphon looks close enough to a HALO type blaster that the younger ones will probably think its cool.
And before anyone says "you forgot the older people," this is perfect for them too, since they probably don't want to go out and break the bank to go play a game they might only to with their kids twice a year.
I think Tippmann did a great job with the price, although they made hard to make a profit for dealers (or so I've heard)

I bet we'll see these popping up at fields around the country since they are very cheap rental markers.

As for durability, its basically a repackaged 98, so I don't see these things breaking very easily. The only point I'd be concerned about is the durability of the composite as opposed to say an alum. 98C, but if you don't run it over with a semi you should be ok.

There has been some question if this marker is made in the USA. I can tell you this marker is not made in the USA, but will be backed with Tippmann's service just like any of our other products.

Will these be available as a marker only, or can you only get them in the Power Pack?
