Planet Eclipse to stop yearly releases of Ego marker

"Rumours, Rumours…….

People seem to start speculating on the next model of marker almost as soon as we have released one. As always the rumour mill is hot talking about the next EGO.

The EGO has been in a yearly cycle of new releases pretty much since the inception of the EGO platform in 2004. We feel the time is right to stop the annual revision to not only give R&D more time to develop and test new innovations but to also extend the life and value of the current model. The performance of the EGO11 has surpassed all of our expectations and the list of upgrades and improvements was going to be so small we have taken the decision not to launch an EGO12.

The EGO will stay as is now with the same great features and body shape until we feel the time is right for the next generation of EGO. This will not be determined by time or season but by research and development through innovation and passion. The EGO11 name will change at some point as we will be deleting the year stamp but the EGO name will continue!

We hope you embrace this move, which will hopefully give everyone a much more stable platform to promote and market the existing models in what we all know are difficult times. The world wide economy is on the mend, but it’s going to take time. We have listened and taken on board concerns of end users and dealers alike and we hope this decision will please everyone.

Many Thanks,

Planet Eclipse "

I for one am relieved they are finally doing this. Granted, the change from the 10-11 was sick, but too often yearly releases don't offer anything new. Thoughts?

Should have done this years ago.

Personally I am gonna guess Ego11's aren't flying off the shelf and this is their way to save face on what I am sure is them hurting like everyone else and giving them a chance to scale back while the economy hopefully recovers.

Yup... Agreed. The yearly release thing is like shooting yourself in the foot. They must have seen a huge decline in sales. Why buy a new $1800 ego when the 06 version can be bought for $300 and is (for all intensive purposes) just as good!

GAH! Carter! You, of all people?!?! INTENTS AND PURPOSES!!

[/grammar nazi]

Anyway, I'm hoping this catches on with the rest of the industry that doesn't already practice this. I've also heard rumblings and murmurings about that they've been having problems getting guns/parts over here stateside anyway, like many others that have taken to a low-volume high demand production schedule as of late (Bob Long to name one), so that may have something to do with it as well.

I said it on PBN as well, but maybe someone here might remember: didn't Eclipse make an announcement like this before? I want to say shortly after the release of the Ego 10?

Its about time. I could care less why (hope they aren't doing too awful), but it is about time a major company (Eclipse, Dye, etc) did this.

I agree that it's about time, but who's the etc? I see those two as the only marker manufacturers (that I can think of) that look at their products like cars.

They did this in the '50s with cars. You know what came next? Musclecars! Big overpowered gas guzzler road rockets!

Bring on the Musclemarkers!
