is there any reason that I should not use flip up sights on the rail as it exists now? ive seen some comments about its length.

It'd be an awful short sight radius...make lining up the sights quickly and accurately pretty tough. It'll work...it just won't work as well/easily as if you could have the front sight out closer to the muzzle.

They do, as well as AR style front sights. I mounted one on my SR1.

What is the bolt made of and is there an anti-double feed (second sear that locks the handle forward until there is a shot) as a part of the design?

Bolt action oriented questions.
