Did tippmann sell them the design or are we looking at blatant infringement?

And what happens the first time they put one into someone's eye? Perp or bystander.

The new technology is the DNA marking element. There's nothing really unique about a CO2 pistol. Tippmann manufactures markers for Pepperball; same deal here I'm sure.

dna tagging?

so it's high tech skeet! wonder how they manufacture it

also, it's only non lethal until someone gets marked in the eye... unlike actual skeet

I wonder how all these police paintball markers (pepper ball and this) affect the image of paintball to the average person and parent.

I can't imagine its good.

the london metropolitan police have been a generally non-firearm carrying force . . . part of that could be since they were formed damn near 200yrs ago when firearms were far more primitive. The Bobbies (or Peelers) have traditionally carried a whistle and a truncheon. they do have firearms, just not every constable carrying them

there is a LOT of history to delve into in regards to all this. suffice to say, Robert Peel and his Peelian Principles made a big mark.

So is the use of the term "DNA" just a euphemism for some kind of unique chemical with encoded information? I would assume that the object here is not to mutate the target.

I'm not sure I understand the logic behind British LEO gun-carrying policies.
Last time I was at Gatwick it seemed like there would be a group of 3-4 police officers walking in a group. All of them would be unarmed... except for one dude with an MP5A3.

I think they use actual DNA, probably something dish-grown and standardized, with a sequence designed to stand-out.

The reason is that it's both entirely harmless, and can be revealed using existing DNA-testing infrastructure for reliable prosecution.
Even a small particle on a suspect's skin may be enough for identification.

I wonder if certain kinds individuals will start wearing synthetic, disposable clothing that is resistant to such tags.

This will likely be limited to certain units and situations - like riots.

It DOESN'T. PERIOD. People need to realize that the only people who think about this is US. No one watches a movie or show involving paintball and thinks "Oh my god look at all the lack of safety equipment I didn't even know you had to wear in the first place because I've never played before"

No one looks at this picture and thinks "Oh my god look at that tippmann tipx painted orange being used to fire something other than paintballs at criminals. Paintballers must be criminals!"

Hell people BARELY hear about drive by shooting with paintball markers and think "Oh my god look at those bored paintballers during the week when the field is closed causing trouble with no where to go! Someone should stop them with an orange painted tippmann tipx shooting something other than paintballs and give them a taste of their own medicine! Also, they weren't wearing proper face masks OR seat belts!"
