Sorry skunks wreck havoc on the enviroment, i have no problem with people killing them...i kill 4 or 5 a year at my house and will continue to do so.

It's not about whether they were killed, it's about how they were killed. Some animals need to be killed but there are humane ways and inhumane ways to do it.

I'm all for prosecuting these *******s. Locally, there have been a recent spate of animal cruelty cases. One kid was running around cutting the heads off cats. A bunch of kids videotaped themselves setting fire to animals and then watching them burn.

How is that funny? How is that excusable? This is the crap Ted Bundy did before he moved on to humans.

I find this all inexcusable and disgusting.

And I hate to approach the argument this way, but what would be happening now if the kids that did it were the goth/punk type or the loaners in the school as opposed to varsity athletes?

There was a case in my province last summer where someone had mutilated a pregnant cat. They made the 5 newborn kittens into a necklace and wrapped it around the mother's neck. All 5 babies died by the time they found it stuck on a fence, and the mother died of an infection caused by having 5 bleeding and rotting kittens rubbing against her neck.

This type of behavior, whether it is graphically mutilating something or shooting it to death with a non-lethal weapon, is wrong, and should be punished to the full extent of the law.

here in Ontario Canada, Skunks are NOT protected by law.
additionally you can kill any animal that is causing damage to your property or poses a danger to persons or live stock. like shooting a dog because it has Rabies.

but the animal must be dispatched in a quick humane manner.
Shot with a Real Steel Firearm or Lethal Air Gun, Euthanized,
Gassed (carbon monoxide from car exhaust in approved chamber, and yes we do have them) or drowned.

although for the example of mutilating cats, or any animal for that matter, i had best not be the person to catch you.
we have plenty of hog farms around here.
that's a hint to your fate should i catch you harming an animal, or committing rape.
