Cool 2008 Bob Long Protege Gen 5 Intimidator Paintball Gun

Video for the Timmy fans.

Funny...anytime I hear someone say Timmy, I think of the theme song from "Lassie" .

Yup nifty little gun and an even niftier price.... $550 MSRP.

This one showing is the prototype to the Protege. The Vice is going to be fancier milled with some other options that I like better or I would be getting the Protege... The vice is coming in at $750..

Why don't you see more Bob Long markers? I was looking at getting a newer one. I had a 2k timmy but I was not really impressed with it. Are the newer markers better than the older ones. There is no one I know around here that use one. I would like to have some more info on the vice or protoge. Anyone know more?

Most people complain about ridiculously priced replacement parts. That's what I gathered when I was looking into buying one.

BL has been long(pun intended) on new milling every year and short(once again, pun intended) on real innovation with the Intimidators. The Protege is the first remarkable update to the marker in what, 9 years? That's a long time to milk a platform and still sell it at a super high end price. Better markers came out and Bob didn't keep up. The Marq is now the high end and the Protege will be the mid range. I'm sure the Protege will fall into a nice price range to compete with the other mid range markers once the initial buzz dies down and will probably bring BL back into the mainstream.

I dunno, what real innovations have been made to poppets since the original Intimidator was built? I mean, you've got Intimidators, Egos, Cyborgs, Fusions (Well, OK, they're slightly different) and so on, and yet there's almost no difference between any of them in terms of performance. The Cyborgs can claim a real efficiency bonus, and the Egos are lighter, but beyond that, has anybody really innovated?

Personally I love Timmies. They offer great performance at a pretty decent price, especially since they're not 'agg' enough to hold resale. I'm trying to pick up an '06 right now, but if that Protege is going for $550, I might go for one of those instead.

Simple... There not trendy any more and really now 80% of paintballs sales are driven by trend-whores.

Personally they have a great customer service record by me. A stellar tech support at events and personally build some of the most reliable guns Ive ever shot eletronic wise.

The worse problem I ever encountered while shooting Bob's guns were dead batteries.

I think part of Bob's problems came from being in bed with NPS. Tied up in legal with someone for a while. Timmy's always seemed too long and and I didn't like the clamshell grip frame. This one looks like a spyder to me though.

I held one of these at cup and they are much much smaller than the old Timmy's. The frame is the same as a Marq, as is the feedneck. The protoge's do look quite plain which leads to the spyderish look. The Vice's on the other hand look awesome IMO.
