Man, that looks like EZD?!

So I am flipping through Sept 07 PB2X Mag, and I see this guy in a ref shirt that looks like Darrin "EZD" Johnson of Splat-tag fame (page58). The heading in the photo says "Few have done more for paintball with less fanfare." And I am thinking...wow...sound like Darrin too!

Then I look to the top of the page, where it says "Profile: Darrin Johnson"

I have got to say...It's about time! He deserves it!

Now, I know that the article was written by one of the players of a team he sponsors, but I tend to doubt that Darrin put him up too it.

I ran a very small paintball biz in the Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul)for two years, and I must say that Darrin was great! He helped me out out several times, and gave me some great advice, about running a PB business.

There were several other PB biz owners that I came across. Somehad attitude, some where indifferent, and at least one tried to drum up business at my field.

Darrin just wasn't that way. He really was there to see paintball grow, and I saw him several times make decisions that were good for paintball, but maybe not the best decisions from a strictly money making perspective. ie...for years he has run "free" or nearly free pump games. There is getting to be a strong pump group out there, and you got to know he ain't making money on pumpers!

And He is a pretty good paintball player too!

Congrats Darrin!

PS: I still think he looks a bit like vince vaughn.

Pretty sure the article was written by Matt Holand (aka pbpancho)--long time MN player and now photographer for PB2X and others...

Cool. Can you get a scanned pic posted? He is a really great guy, who runs a good field. The funny thing is is that I have been going to SplatTag for a few years now, and over the years I have been picking up bits here and there about how great of a player he was and how much he has done for paintball.

Go Terminatiors!!!!!

Just my view from a new old timer.

Darrin's about as good as they come. He still runs the free pump games and free customer appreciation days. We even get together at his invitation only winter game "Arctic Blast". He's also one of the best players I've come across. In a pump game he once took out 7 MN Militia members when we had him cornered on the field. Every now and then he'll tell us stories of his "old days" being on the first televised paintball tournament, somewhere in Florida I think.

I think I'll send him a link to MCB

Yup, he's a class act through and through. I've had the pleasure of being shot by him on many occasions - that auto-triggered sniper farting away, not a great sound to hear if you're on the other side.

He obviously understands what too few field owners do - that giving people a quality paintball experience will gain him clients for life - as opposed to trying to squeeze every penny out of the few people he can get to come out.

Another thing that I really appreciate about Darin is the large variety of types of paintball he supports - rec, pump, scenario and even the occasional speedball.

thanks man,

I thought the pump games at Splat Tag was every third Sunday of the month? Didn't know there was a "schedule" for 'em.

I played against him in the 10 ball tournament, and helped out at the field for some paint.
He is a great guy.

I also love the games that he holds at his field.

Love the big giant games they put on.

was he on the terminators?

I probably got shot by him on my very first game.

It was in '92 I think, I had a sheridan .68 mag, and three terminators came up on us.

They had split up the team for the two sides, and these three had been working on the newbies, and I got lit up by the three of them.

This was at a field called Adventure zone, in St. Paul.

I wonder if he'd remmember Eli Bravo, and the crew he used to bring out there. I went along a few times.

Eli doesn't play anymore, niether does most of the guys that used to play, but I still know them from church and stuff.

I never knew Darren was on the terminators.
