Smart Parts with huge breakthrough!

United States Patent Application: 0070186916

I'm not even sure how to react to this.

I'm sure Steve Davidson will tell us that you can patent "improvements" to existing ideas, which may be true, but........ geeez.

So prior art....

SL-68 2

Blade

Badger

Do who wants to send the link for vintagerex to the patent office so they can look into prior art before they continue to award stuff to SP. And doesn't the Blade have a patent?

Combat Connection Enforcer III, and most recently, the Mini right?

Most Tippmanns actually fell in this category... Prolite, et al.

I get ill every time I read one of Smart Parts patent documents.

I'm sure Hell has a little place set aside just for the Gardner boys.

ICE Epic, Armson semi, Sheridan Equalizer, Mini....
The ZXS-600 had the pneumatics/solenoid channeled through the grip.

I think the PEC Combat/Master?

Hard to figure out what goal SP is trying to accomplish?

So is there a way to get this thing invalidated with out going to court?

I mean in some cases we have pictures in nationally published magazines from like 15 years ago showing prior art.

How about being ****ing***holes and having everyone hate them?

Honestly, I don't know how anyone can "defend" SP after this ****.

The Patent office was supposedly going to have a new review system and they were also supposed to go over old patents. Not sure what that means to be honest.

As of right now, you can basically patent just about anything, and in the end, it doesn't mean much, unless you take someone to court and fight it out. So at that point, it's the person with the most money wins.

Paintball is full of people and small companies without much money and not willing to fight, and would gladly license.... So companies with these patents will go after them.

I have patents for work and to be honest, they didn't stop anyone from copying and redesigning the same thing.... They tweak it a little bit and then you've got nothing. We called a few infringers, only to get hung up on. To take them to court would mean loss of time and money for us, and the returns would be very little on the other side. So we never bothered.

All our rival company patents (since they applied for their own later too) listed ours as prior art. So I wonder why that section wasn't included in the SP patent?

I'll be quiet now as I just don't know enough about patents.

Someone over at Patent Headquarters USA has their head up their rear oriface.... problem is they probably don't know anything about paintball and probably dont care... which sucks.

But I would think that all but the Badger has a patent on it... so seeing as there is probably all of a couple thousand paintball patents, it would take all of a couple of days to say... oops sorry not going to happen.

Then again... if they don't know what they are looking at, it's not going to matter.

For example.. with all the electros out there... if I was in the patent office I would be pretty damn clueless... not that I wouldn't take the time to figure things out... but they may have a contest going to see how many reviews they can do per day.

Hey Carter, is it time that MCB puts a ban on the phrases "SP" "SmartParts" and "Smart Parts"?

I mean their business tactics are disgusting, their products are horribly made and really don't have a place on a "vintage" website unless they're pre-97ish, and it's about time that someone point out that the adults and older players in the paintball community won't support their B.S.
