Phelps takes a hit

So I'm trying to find a way to post the link to the article from the front page of the Baltimore Sun website, but in lieu of that:

"A federal jury in Baltimore awarded nearly $11 million yesterday to the father of a Marine killed in Iraq, deciding that the family's privacy had been invaded by a Kansas church whose members waved anti-gay signs at the funeral."

"The compensatory damage award alone, $2.9 million, was nearly triple the net worth of Westboro and the three members on trial, their attorney said."

Of course on the downside, they get more publicity and there is probably a good chance that it could get over-turned due to interpretation of the 1st Ammendment...

I don't see how its a first ammendment violation. Several states, including my own North Carolina have inacted laws prohibiting anything that is designed to disrupt funerals, and I believe ours specifically mentions the funerals of soldiers.

So, screw this witch and her cult. I want to go to her funeral and wizz in her grave.

The thing that gets me, im all about freedom of speech, and they were indeed free to say what they did, but there are consequences for what you say, and this is $11 million worth of responsibility.

This is the best message to tell those cowards to OWN UP.

ah, I guess I see this as more fitting of "news" than "general chat" given the overall level of animosity towards them and when I didn't see a thread about it in here posted up. Sorry for the repost.
