PTP and BE come to deal over IP suit.

As reported by .68caliber.com

Not much of a story, but it seems to me that PTP being the smaller company must have won its case and BE decided to settle rather then lose in a courtroom battle.

Too bad about the gag order though... it would be VERY interesting to know the terms of what was discussed.

Since this is the internet, we are free to speculate as to what this is about?

PTP has patents for clamping feed necks, pneumatic assist, magnetic assist, rotating feednecks, and a variety of hopper locking systems.

I would assume that PTP is suing BE/WGP over the clamping feednecks on the latest WGP guns? That is the only patent that I can see that could be used.

Actually I believe this is the case where PTP was going to work with BE to bring the pneumatic trigger system out for various marker lines. BE didn't pursue the venture, and PTP wants the rights to their system back.

Can anyone better informed comment? That's my understanding of the situation.

During the PTP patent thread, Steve Davidson made a comment that PTP had licensed the design to a "mystery company", and that company did not complete there end of the bargain.

I had ASSUMED he was talking about AGD regarding its Deadly Wind project, but was told my assumption was incorrect. So then the mystery company was Brass Eagle? Interesting.

Brass Eagle just released a whole pile of new guns (Synergy, SR, and MG7, Tac-One).

If you look at those guns, its pretty clear what Brass Eagle is doing: Synergy competes with Kingman, MG7 competes with Smart Parts, TacOne competes with Tippmann, and the SR competes with the "high end" crowd).

Clearly Brass Eagle reviewed the market, and is agressively attacking its competition. They probobly hooked up many licensing, and IP deals. It looks like they were also going to release a pneumatic-trigger gun, thinking it was "the next big thing", but dropped the PTP deal onec they realized it was not.

Or, I could be wrong.

IIRC, WGP was actually supposed to have come out with a pneumatic triggered blowback line. They are, of course, part of the same company as Brass Eagle.

Well, since PTP were the ones that first went to the 'press' with this, I think perhaps they are now the ones with the gag order. BE didn't look too open to comment at any point.

IIRC, there was issue with the WGP "Select fire" or whatever it was. That was the cocker that used an electro-pnuematic frame. I thought that PTP and BE/K2 were supposed to have an agreement, but BE/K2 didnt follow it.

Anyone else remember the threads that might have mentioned that?

LOL, sorry.
I guess the current name is "Tac 5M Recon", not Tac-One.

That is the mil-sim entry from BE/WGP.
