I think that is the main issue! Some people / teams will do everything they can do to push every rule they can.

The same thing happened when I was a competitive handgun shooter. Give a set of rules for a course of fire and some would try and scheme to play as close to the edge as they could. Was it cheating.... no but at some point it becomes un-sports-men-like.

Peace

best idea yet..........instead of boards just on the marker...put them in the Loader!

"The easy way to avoid cheating by illegal ramping modes is to have the event promotors provide the players with hoppers set to fed only at legal rates. I mean seriously, your gun can cycle 20+ a second but that does not mean jack if your hopper only feeds 14 bps".

The problem with that is the same as the problem with supplying league owned boards: Cost and time. It costs a lot to purchase a large pool of hoppers for all participants although the cost will be offset by sponsorships. Then you have to figure in the cost of maintaining them(full time job for at least 2 but probably more people) spares, batteries(because everyone must have equal batteries provided with the hoppers or there will be accusations of cheating) and the labor involved in making sure no one is tampering or swapping out hoppers that have been modified but look just like the provided equipment. Then there will be the ugly arguments about certain teams getting better hoppers because they are sponsored by the right people or have friends in the league & etc. So then what do you do? Switch hoppers randomly between games? More labor. More time, more cost and more accusations that the guy that last used the hopper threw bubble gum under the paddle or some other attempt to sabotage it for the next guy. Then what about the sponsors? There are lots of hopper manufacturers that bring money to these events and want to see their equipment on the field. If the league owns the hoppers then some manufacturers will be excluded from competing and only the richest one will get to have their hopper on the field. And what happens if a hopper failure decides the game or the tournament? If it's the player's hopper the player and team have no one to blame but themselves and their hopper sponsor. If the league owns the hopper they are responsible for it and a failure that causes a change in the game's outcome could result in complete fiasco.

thats how Formula 1 restricts alot of things. to make sure teams arn;t using traction control systems (something that is very much like trigger cheats in paintball due to its difficult to detect and easy of turning it on and off), every car runs the same basic control module. this prevents almost any electronic cheating, from traction control systems to RPM limiter cheating.

really, we can beat around the bush of it - but the fact is that cheating exists and is so common in our sport becuase everyone allows it. nothing more. if we had the will to stop it - we could. however, many new generation of players like cheating, they have more fun like that. and the pros like it because it wins them games, and the leagues like cheating because it keeps the fans entertained and the money flowing in.

really, it all comes back to no one in any powerful position wants cheating to go away. its as simple as that. they would rather change the rules, than police cheating. and i think thats just weak, and pathetic.

I see the time and expense...sponsorships ect....now if a team is required to buy/get sponsored for said loaders/boards plus back up loaders/boards....two for each man...
(5 man team = 10..ect..) if failure happens exchange loader for another.....Keep them locked up with team equipment with out the boards...send boards to tourney...team install or tourney tech?....if caught with illegal board/switched board...DQ team/game(s)...if paint can be bought/sponsored...shipped stored....so can legal boards...
Build/make the loaders for easy board installs without parting the shell...plug-in and go....
Will it happen?

I would like to see sport brought back into it....not just lane or sit and spray....but I'm not normal anyway....
I'll stick to the woods....

You guys keep suggesting that the league supply the technology to keep players honest (chips, boards, hoppers, whatever) Here's my question. Who's going to do all the upkeep? And what happens when one of those things fries and makes a team lose because their marker/hopper quit working?

I don't have all the answers..I'm just like everyone else here throwing ideas out....

What would happen if a board fried now....the man would be out of luck...
Same if a supplied board...put it in the rules.....and how many times has a player had a board short out in a tourney?...I don't know....I've seen more parts broken problems....then out in out board problems...except water/moisture problems or messed with boards...handled alot, plugged in/out, chipped by owner or owner damage.

Just like a restrictor? plate on nascar...if the engine isn't tuned to the plate it won't run right....tune the marker to the legal board...13.33bps...or whatever

the point is this is one way it could be done......

Depends on upkeep?.......check board....ID the boards so tech/ref can verify ceritified board(s)....have clear board door......different labeling for each major tourney....limit this to major events/tourneys...???.

Hey I'm just throwing these ideas out there...comment on...

Agitated gravity feed hoppers and let players do whatever they want with their markers (under 300 fps of course). It's a simple fix that's basically impossible to cheat and puts the bps at about 12.

Or better yet, limit the amount of paintballs allowed to be carried on to the field and let distribution, management, and conservation of ammo become part of the game (tactics), just like a real life battle.
