Don't drink milk in western Massachusetts from Whittier Farms

I know some of the members are from this area....

BOSTON - State health officials warned consumers not to drink milk produced by a Massachusetts dairy, saying it was the likely source of a bacterial illness that killed two men and sickened two others.
Whittier Farms suspended operations and distribution, said Dr. Alfred DeMaria, the state director of communicable disease control. Most of its customers live in Worcester County

That's too bad. It's a smaller family run dairy, and was right down the street from my old department. They sell milk in various specialty stores, and have THE BEST coffee flavored and chocolate flavored milk out there. They even sell it in old style glass containers, which seems to keep the milk that much colder and crisper tasting when you take it out of the refrigerator.

Hopefully they get that issue sorted out.

The Milford Daily News reported that two people died after drinking milk produced by Whittier Farms in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. According to the story, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health issued a warning to consumers not to drink milk produced by the dairy because it might be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Whittier Farms distributes most of its milk to homes in the greater Worcester/Shrewsbury area under the brands Whittier, Schultz, Balance Rock, Spring Brook, and Maple. The dairy has ceased production until health officials are able to determine where the contamination occurred.

I listed all name brands...so if a friend or family member brings milk over...this is not just recent, this has been going on for awhile.......The cases occurred in June, October and two in November. It's the holidays and people bring stuff from out of the area sometimes.....so check the milk....
just in cause your not in this small area as B says.....because the farm was just shut down until it get a clean bill of health...

Listeriosis poisoning that can be dangerous to the elderly, newborns, pregnant women and people with chronic medical conditions. Symptoms include fever, headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.

I couldn't have said it better myself. I totally agree that they definitely have the best chocolate milk I have ever had and hope this doesn't hurt them too bad.

I live in the Worcester area (20 mins south of the city) and we are NOT in Western MA. To change the title was a mistake.
