Smart Parts All American Tip to accomodate an APEX barrel tip

Smart Parts All American Tip to accomodate an APEX barrel tip - PbNation

From Sean at SP:
----------------------------
We have had many requests from APEX barrel owners to make a front to fit a freak system that would allow an Apex Barrel Tip to be added. Many APEX owners wanted the versatility of using the inserts. So.. Here it is and available through your local store! They started shipping yesterday! I apologize for the picture quality. We quickly shot these with a digital camera earlier today.

Here is the barrel with a Freak Back, Apex All American Tip, and Apex

Here is the Barrel seperated

Here is the whole barrel again from another angle

Did they patent it, too?

Surprised no other barrel mfg has done this yet, but an insert barrel with an Apex seems counterproductive to me. While I haven't shot an Apex, it seems like the spin would just introduce more inconsistency into the shot, whereas the point of paint-bore match is more consistency.

If you start with a consistant shot, the inconsistancy with the backspin induction would theoretically be lessened. Plus the usual roll out prevention with closed bolts.
I've enjoyed my freak kit for years and I'm tempted to pick one of these up myself. Solves my dilema of weather to get a spyder or cocker threaded apex.

Wait a minute! I thought that the Apex was a universal fit!

well, they offer it in a ton of different threadings (spyder, cocker, a5, model98, and I think Ion), people have custom adapted just about every barrel at some point to take the front part of the apex, and a couple companies (including Palmer's) have made adaptor collars to attach the apex front to certain barrels.

The only barrel companies that so far offer a version of their barrel to take the apex front so far have been Lapco...

and now Smartparts.

Another indication how SP is moving more and more into the woodsball scene.

I feel that an Apex will actually help make bad paint fly more consistently. Paint that is egg shaped or has bad seams will fly unpredictably. Sometime up or down or whatever. The same bad paint can benefit by the spin that the Apex tip puts on it. It even seems to help with velocity spikes caused by poor paint to barrel match, because the ball is actually "floating" from the lift caused to the target. At least you can be sure that it will curve, for the most part, in one direction!

I'm not saying that an Apex will make your gun shoot darts. Just that I feel it can put a little control back into your hands when stuck with lousy paint. And you can also adjust the amount of spin you want to put on the ball.

IMHO being an apex owner, its a novel attachment that i occassionaly use when i feel like wasting an entire hopper of paint to tag someone out whom would normaly be out of range because im too lazy to actualy advance to better cover
