Nothing when I am playing with a pump I just prefer an agitator for semi because I hate chops.

| still pump'n - go figure. Join Date: Jul 2006 |
I've heard recently that 55% of all paintball players on earth right now have never played on a commercial field - they prefer instead to play outlaw ball / backyard ball. 10% of all paintball players on the planet play speedball / tournament pball. I think any move that a field can do to tap into that 55% is a smart move. Limiting ROF through hopper restrictions? sure - why not. How about hopper ball? (i.e., no pods on the field) Or veterans restricted to pump only? One thing I didnt see mentioned is the rental marker that the walkons may recieve - typically the most maintainable marker : the venerable Tippmann 98... 4-5 bps on a great day. cap the field ROF at the rental rof.

Sounds fine to me. See the problem with getting "technical" is that you can end up with rule disputes and a bunch of junk like that. By going with the blanketed "gravity fed hoppers only!" You eliminate all questions about what type of hoppers you allow. Everyone understands what a gravity fed hopper is, but it gets quibbley when one gets into the agitated, forcefeed and other feed types. I think the clamp down and say "ONLY Gravity feed!" is a great approach. Start with strict, clear rules, evaluate, and tweak as needed.

| Good once as I never was Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: Columbia/Jeff City, MO | If I remember correctly, the rentals at DZ are those yellow handled Piranha semi rental markers, w/CO2 tanks and a non-agitated hopper (obviously, I know, I know). So pretty much, by making everyone use non-batteried hoppers, they're restricting everyone to the speed of those Piranhas.

I've never used anything but a gravity feed hopper. So naturally I love their decision. I wish my local field would do that. If it doesn't work, they can go back to what it was like before, I applaud them for the change. I was a little shocked to see the field was near Lawrence Kansas, half my family lives there and I grew up close by.

Another thing that should be in my sig: It's not about the gun, it's about the guy holding the gun. Instead of making all these equipment rules to slow things down why not just make a zero tolerance policy about overshooting? Any more than 3 breaks on any player and you go home. Do it again, take a month off. Do it again, lifetime ban from the field. You gotta hit people where it hurts because they can still brutalize somebody with a gravity fed hopper just the same as with a forcefeed. If anything it will make it worse because people will be trying to get close before opening up on their target so now the people getting shot will get 3 balls instead of 5 from 10 feet instead of 20. Not to mention the guys who are pissed at the newbies and do their best to abuse them because they are the reason that their $1000 gun is now basically worthless. You cannot cure overaggressive play by limiting hardware, you need to limit at the source which is......you'll never guess......the players.

I live in Lawrence, so Drop Zone's my local field. I'm also going to be working there as a ref this season. The logic behind this move is pretty sound, and I'm anxious to see how it plays out. Of course, it's just going to hurt the tournament players. I mean, the only allowing gravity fed hoppers is going to put them at a serious firepower disadvantage playing against pump and stock class guns.
