Every paintball store and field around here requires you to have an adult present when purchasing a marker, or signing a field waiver.

Mr. Furious,
Well put. I also thought about dropping him a note but since you did interested in knowing if he responds.

Yes, it's not a new story... or even a new storyline... Maybe I'm an old softie but it was touching... I found his tact and restraint was remarkable as well.

I honestly hate to read these types of stories... I decided to post this one to share his simple message.. always realize the potential for harm of paintball guns ...and... in general to realize that unsafe actions may have grave consequenses for others.

Actually I would argue, that paintball guns while they can do great damage if not handled properly are nothing to airsoft guns...

I had my eye damaged by an airsoft gun that was on safe, and being held by someone across the room, not deliberately pointing at me, nor did he actually squeeze the trigger. There are alot of really cheap Chinese imports in the airsoft world, and by holding the grips tight enough, it pushes the parts that hold the spring in place apart, making it fire. This is completely unsafe, my eyesight in that eye has never returned to normal. With a paintball gun, that would have never have happened, even a Talon won't just fire if you hold it too tightly...

With the cheap asian markers hitting the paintball market, I worry about things like this starting to occur with the more serious impact of a .68 cal projectile...

Wow, I haven't heard this before now. Very sad, sad stroy indeed.

Out here where I paly we had one person get shot in the thigh with a frozen one. We took his gun, threw it in the lake and kicked him out permanently.

I believe as it was said, anyone that does this should be tried and convincted.

I recieved a reply from Hailee's father today:

Quote:
Chris,
Thank you for your kind e-mail. I am glad that you understand the message I
was trying to send, not that paintball is bad as a sport, but that for
people to be aware of its dangers (especially parents). In the past I have
received a few negative comments from paintball players, but that has been
extremely rare, and my response to them has not been the kindest. The
message is safety and the consequences that can happen if you are careless.
Enjoy your sport, but be safe. Again I appreciate your very kind words.

Gregg Garrett
(father of Hailee)
I'm impressed.

I also received the same message. Like I said on PBN, you have to read it, not into it.
Later,
Blackrain

We ougt to do some sort of collection for her. Start a thing that MCB could do, somthing like an award, however I know thats not the right word. Golden nelspot, presented to those who have suffered from the wrongfull actions of those who used paintball equipment in a negitive manner. We could get some celebrities involved (somthing along the lines of a letter from Shatner), and then take up a collection here on MCB.

Paintballs cant freeze.. Nuff said.

YouTube - Frozen paintballs

FYI that test was done by Simon/Manike AKA Techy guru and KEE's R and D guy.

Ive done this myself as well.. I toss a pod of low end walmart grade paint into the freeze a while back to see what it would do.. All I achived was having to clean my test bed M98 as not a single ball made it out of the barrel intact

this isnt part of the sport, qualifying a random act of vandalism/violence with a paintball marker as a sport related accident is like saying beating someone to death with a baseball bat is a baseball related accident

sorry to hear about her. however i cannot get teared up. acts of violence happen daily. trust me when i say im sorry for her and the family and hope the attacker is caught. but to me its no more than someone gettin shot with a real gun or stabbed or robbed or beat up. it happens all the time, just because its done with a paintball marker doesnt make it any more....intresting to me.

anyways. do hope the attacker is captured and if the police say theres nothing they can do you better get a lawyer to make em do something, even if it is a worthless effort i still say make them spend money and man hours trying, that or i would go vigilante justice as much have reccomended. least if it was my daughter i would go vigilante
