Please shoot/play responsibly

Picked this up over at MAD's site:

I think it's very important that all should read. Now a common sense factor really needs to come in with reading this. All of us know that paintball velocity can be cranked up and that balls have been frozen by many players. So don't read between the lines. I'm sure this was done by a few idiots out there. I'm not even sure if the people were caught. By it's crap like this that gives our sport a bad name. Way to many paintball accidents such as this and other related incidents are happening. Don't blame compnaies for putting guns in Walmart, cause the internet sells them too as well as paintball shops. So just read it and let it sink in. If by chance you were the person who did this, I hope your caught and tried as an adult. Maybe this should be a sticky:
Paintball
Later,

Whoever did that should be tied down and disemboweled with a teaspoon.

this is another reason i think that paintball markers should only be owned by adults and used under adult supervision. too bad little johnny, mom and dad don't want you to play.

I used the contact form to send this message to the girl's father:

Quote:
Hello,

I am writing today because I was very touched by Hailee's story. I wanted to let you know how sorry I was to read about the injury Hailee received and how touched and humbled I was to read of her bravery and perseverence during such a terrible, life-changing event. I have been an avid paintball player for many years. I want you to know that for people who love the sport, stories like Hailee's cause great sorrow and anger. Paintball players do not assault and injure people as the criminals who hurt Hailee did. The story of Hailee's injury is like too many others we read and hear about far too often and each one causes outrage in our community on levels far greater than that of those who read about it in the paper or hear it on the news. Paintball is an extremely safe sport if the rules are followed and players are supervised by trained personnel at an organized facility. The people who disregard the safety principals and do not respect the equipment for the damage it can inflict are the ones causing injuries or being injured. The people who are using paintball guns to assault innocent people are criminals no different than someone who would use a baseball bat or golf club to assualt someone. Almost any piece of sporting equipment can be dangerous if not used within the confines of the game and the within the rules designed for safety of the participants. People from all walks of life play paintball and many medical professionals participate with no fear of injury because they know that as long as safety is always first the risk of injury is lower than many other leisure sports. You have not portrayed paintball as a whole in a bad light and I do appreciate your responsible approach. If I were in your position I'm not sure that I could have excercised the amount of restraint that you have shown. If you would like to post more safety information on your site, please feel free to contact me by e-mail and I would be happy to forward some links to information that might help to enhance the safety of everyone who uses or is near paintball equipment. Again, I am so sorry to hear how the malicious act of criminals changed the lives of your daughter and family and I would like to express my admiration for Hailee and the way she persevered after such a horrible event.

Sincerely,
Christopher

The person that did this ought be be hung by his eyelids and kicked in the testicles till he blinks. Nice letter, Mr. Furious. Did you happen to get a reply?

I've got to say, even though paintball is definitely one of the safest sports out there; it only takes one jackass with a marker to do something horrid like this. It's too bad what happened, but atleast she's positive about it and is staying active.

Nice to have some follow up.
