Amen. I hope to enter the teaching field some day myself, although as a shop teacher and not an English teacher. Although the L33T speak does tend to get a trifle annoying at times. (End by tht i mean teh txting shrt hnd that mst peeps seem 2 like 2 tok n.) Jordan

| Again - no one please take that personally. I am sensitive to people who criticize the academic field. TF

| It wouldn't be so bad if we weren't all products of said field and realize our own short comings.

| I agree with Listessa, girls like this make me angry. It just gives more fuel to the mindset that women are stupid and whiny. Girls like this should just be quiet. They are embarrassing to the rest of us real women. |

| no offense taken, they probably should considering the fact that most people don't raise their kids like they did 10 years ago. on top of all that it's sad the the people that teach get paid what they do for what they are suppose to teach us.

If I had to push a button up to three times to generate one character I'd be using short hand too. It isn't surprising that it carries over even when a full keyboard is available. Between that and in-game chat (where typing grammatically correct sentences like results in dirtnaps) that l33tspeak shorthand doesn't look more natural when using any text collaboration mechanism. | |

| Honestly though - and I don't want to change the topic: People have been saying 'kids these days' since the beginning of time. Generation X was critiqued by being a bunch of slackers and it disturbs me when we do the same to the millenials. We create our kids - and they act like we train them to act. As far as women go. I love Listessa - but I love even more feminine women (in the more traditional sense) that try new things. I thought I would like a chic that would play paintball - I have decided that I would love more a very feminine woman who would play now and again to have fun but who has nice nails and likes girly things. I can't, then, fault them for being traditionally feminine. I got a bang out of this article and thought it was good advice for the vast majority of women I run into. TF

| "People have been saying 'kids these days' since the beginning of time. Generation X was critiqued by being a bunch of slackers and it disturbs me when we do the same to the millenials. We create our kids - and they act like we train them to act." Did you ever stop to think that maybe the reason people have been saying this for generations is because it is true? I went to a fine university AND college - received two degrees in the process, one in English lit. My personal experience is that many kids graduating from the public school system in the US can't spell, can't write, can't read with any decent amount of comprehension and have not a clue as to where to find Viet Nam on a globe. I know there are many fine teachers and professors out there, but they seem to be pebbles in the stream; they barely have any discernable influence on the flow of idiocy being 'graduated' from the system. Truth to tell, the problem may not be due so much to bad teaching as it is to lowered entrance standards. Schools have to make money too, so the natural solution is to simply let anyone in who can pay, regardless of qualification. That 'girl' is either writing in a casual style that she thinks is appropriate for the context - or she can't write and has been woefully misled by her instructors. |
