yet I did get into trouble for starting the "cinnimon challenge" as a senior

Again mid 80's graduated '88'

80's were the best! Cool music, loved the 80's hair and the spandex on the women at Balley's
Times have definately changed. High schoolin the eighties was definately more fun. We played the assination game with squirtguns between classes. Back then if you got caught with a squirt gun it just got confiscated, leaving you "unarmed" for the rest of the day. Now if someone did this they probably would get expelled and probably in some legal trouble as well.

As far as this kid getting hammered for being a dumbass, I think the arrest could be going overboard, but since we don't know everything from the news article, it could be little Johnny was trying to be a tool and trually got what was coming to him. It is really hard to say from the outside, with not enough detail. Too bad in todays kindler gentler times, a good dose of Walking Target's "Vitamin foot to the ***", has been left out of todays youth.

I may still be a teenage but I HAVE to agree with that statement, Physical punishment just doesn't work anymore. Physical punishment was much more convincing (I know it straightened me out and I'm not even 16!). Zero tolerance is just "Hmmm, I'd use my brain cells using common sense, Bad IQ BAD BAD BAD! " I carry around a lighter and I don't smoke (my friends do but I was never tempted, just kindly refused a cigarette.) and Lighter may come in handy, it's just a matter of the situation.

Just my 2 cents,
-Oliver

Here's the thing that I can see may have caused this reaction:

Remember the terrorists they busted a few years back that were each carrying a part of an explosive device or gun that was to be assembled later once they all met up on the plane? I wish I could remember the exact details but it was something like each one carried a small piece that wouldn't set off the metal detectors and once they got together on the plane they'd give all the parts to one guy who would assemble it and make it dangerous. This could have been feared to be the the same type of thing: One kid brings the grip frame, one brings the slide, another brings the clip and the last one brings the ammo. Yes, this was a paintball gun part but a black paintball gun grip frame and the frame of a real firearm part are indistinguishable from one another at even short distances. Another thing to consider is that this could have been a practice run for a real gun to be brought to school or to desensitize people to seeing that particular person with that particular item so no one would think anything of it when he brought an actual firearm to school in preparation to begin shooting people. Yes, it sucks that the kid got busted for a paintball gun part but in the world we live in the school administrators cannot take any chances. It has been shown time and time again that school shooters plan and practice and rehearse their actions before they actually commit to killing people. You cannot take the chance that this was simply an innocent mistake or poor judgement because maybe that's what the kid wanted everyone to think and he was really just testing the waters to see what he could get away with before he actually brought a real gun to school. Does he deserved to be charged? I don't know but you can bet that nobody else will bring things to school resembling guns or parts of guns unless they want to be arrested and charged as well. Sometimes stupid people are made an example so evil people think twice about their actions......

Mr. Furious,
Well said. It could have posibly been a dry run that got broken up. Prosecute to the law and let his parents pay out their A$$ for having such a stupid kid.
Later,
Blackrain

Moral:
Leave the paintball stuff at home it's just that simple. However there is always an idiot out there that will challenge the system. Regardless what anyone says, it can still be used as a weapon. Although they are considered farm and forrestry equipment. Lets face it, todays youth isn't very smart. Everyone has to act tough and like some want to be thug. This is a good reason why "Paddeling should have never been taken out of school". In my day this would have been handled just that way. But back in my day it was nothing to see .22 and shot guns in the windows of pickups.
Later,
Blackrain
Three things:
1) Common sense seems to be in very short supply in regards to the student bringing what would appear to the uninformed much like a real gun and in some of the reactions here thinking the police and the punishment were over reactions- um no, not in anyway.

2) Did your principal use the paddles with the vented holes drilled into the face for maximum effect? Yup I been there done that back in the day.

3) Back in my day I could ride all over town with a Daisy or Crossman Pellet gun slung to my back and never get a second glance. I could not however have one of the air pistols on me - ever. That did get a policeman to pull over once. he made me go home and put it away which I did. I think back then it was also a little more respect for authority.

We would all hope that the kid was just stupid, but you are right, he really could have been a bonehead up to no good, and thinking some of the other school shootings were something to copy.

This post is in humor so no one get'em bunched between the cheeks ok?

I blame it on on glock, smith and wesson, and the xm8. These so called gun designers are causing all the problems. I mean they design actual firearms out of PLASTIC!!!!! It's not that toy manufacturers are makeing toys look like guns. Its the other way around Gun manufactures are making their product look like TOOOOYYYS. Damn it all to Hell. When I buy a 9mm by God I don't want 95% of it made out of plastic. For Christ Sake, what will happen the first time I try to pistol whip someone with a Glock?!!!

Humorous:
XM8 with plastic is ok but having PISTOLS?!?!?!?
Pistols are for the cools kids, man! You CANNOT have a pistol that looks like a toy or else them baddies with their custom pistols will laugh at you.

With Science evolving, Plastics may be a better choice as it is cheaper and lighter but is more prone to melting but metal just heats up. Having a pistol here in Canada can be considered illegal ( I wanted to look like Dante from DMC rocking two super special awesome handguns =X )

They probably chose plastic because it costs less but it is more troublesome to make. Money makes the world go round I guess

Sorry, man. It's the world we live in. It's all about the worst case scenario and those *******s in Columbine gave us all something to be terrified of.
