I mailed in an Action Marker Sentinal. I had written in a not that it was to benefit Rich, and only him. Not EMR. I hope that the latter wasn't the case.

Talked to Deuce like 30 minutes ago, everything that was donated was given away be it auction or raffle and 100% of proceeds went to Rich. He thinks it was like $3300 total or something. We traded emails so I didn't get all the details yet but I would rest assured that things were handled properly.

There were two raffles I believe, one for the regular EMR event, and one as the benefit for Rich.
...more info - This is exactly what happened. The overhead of running an auction, keeping track of bids, and then tracking down the winning bidder and collecting the money is a decent amount of work and to do it while trying to organize and run a game with 1300 people is asking a lot.

Instead EMR opted to run a raffle to give away the gear and that's what they did. I agree that more money could have been raised with a straight up auction but with just a few weeks notice I think the raffle option was more than acceptable. If you've ever run an event before you'll know there's weeks and sometimes months of prep work that go into every detail, adding in an auction on short notice is much harder than adding in a raffle.

I'm sure everyone on here hopes that we never have to participate in another fund raiser for a fellow player but maybe next time people should offer to donate time as well as gear and offer to run the auction side of it.

I'm not pointing fingers I just think the whole thing was a misunderstanding, people, including myself, were expecting to see an auction and not a raffle and I think it got other people wondering if the gear was really given away.

I am a newbie here, never been to Castle or have met Rich. Since I am in California I might not ever make it out there. and I know that this is after the fact of the bake sale. But I was thinking, you might want to check into a bank. Banks usually can set up a donation account, where everyone can send in a check to be deposited to this account. I believe there are different ways to set this up to, where the bank would not charge any fees or very little, the donations might be tax free to the user, long as they are going towards the medical bills that the account was set up for. It should not be very hard to find information about that and to set up the account. I would be willing to send in a check too.

The Phantom, an Autococker and Hammersmith's Sniper were given away as guns plus a lot of other small gear.

If we realy did raise $3300 off of it, then that's very impressive. Assuming $404 for the 50/50, another, what, $700 from the bake sale, that leaves almost $2200 as proceeds from three guns and a few hundred dollars' worth of smaller gear. From those rough numbers, it would suggest that we got well over "street value" for the donated gear by doing it as a raffle.

But as has been said already, I wouldn't have done anything differently no matter what so whatever they were able to raise is good.

I do remember that when I bought my raffle tickets they had at least a 2" thick rubber-banded stack of $20s sitting there so I'd imagine it was a pretty good haul regardless of the actual number.

Awesome.

Trojanman, I think there was more than a few hundred dollars worth of smaller goods. They were giving out a LOT of stuff as each number was called. It was really great to see how many people rallied round and donated.

If those were the only guns you saw go, then the Sentinel I sent must have not made the raffle/auction.
That sucks. That's a really nice gun, and holds ( for me) lot's of sentimental value in regards to Action Markers.
