KEE Action Sports Launches Paintball CO2 Tank Safety Initiative Awareness Program

KEE Action Sports and Mark Contois, whose wife died in a 2004 paintball-related accident, today announced the launch of a new safety awareness program about the hazards posed by some refillable carbon dioxide tank systems commonly used in paintball play.

Mr. Contois was represented in the matter by Peter Hinton, a partner at Hinton, Alfert & Sumner in Walnut Creek, CA.

Kee Action Sports' industry-leading safety awareness program will include a series of full-page safety notices in key paintball magazines around the world, a safety poster for distribution to paintball businesses at no charge, informational links on KEE Action Sports (KEE Action Sports), and a core exchange program which will allow consumers to update their current carbon dioxide tanks to the latest technology for a modest cost.
George Eurick, president of KEE Action Sports, said, "Our focus has always been one of safety first. We were happy to voluntarily work with Mr. Hinton and Mr. Contois to enhance awareness on this important safety issue. Our Pure Energy brand of air systems continues to lead the paintball industry in both quality and safety. Our commitment to this program is one more sign of our dedication to safety within the paintball industry."

"We are very pleased with KEE Action Sports' response to our request for help in educating the public to the potential dangers of teenagers and other untrained persons removing and reinstalling valves on refillable carbon dioxide cylinders used to power paintball markers," said Mr. Hinton. "The company has stepped up to the plate and exceeded our expectations with their professional expertise and cooperation.

Colette Contois was fatally injured by a carbon dioxide cylinder modified by a teenager to include an anti-siphon device.

KEE Action Sports was created in November 2007 through the merger of National Paintball Supply of Sewell, NJ, and Pursuit Marketing, Inc., of Des Plaines, IL. It is the largest manufacturer and distributor of paintball-related products in the world, employing more than 350 people in three countries. Major KEE brands include Empire, Invert, BT, Extreme Rage and Pure Energy.

For more information regarding any of the new safety programs, to request a poster for a paintball business or to secure more information about the carbon dioxide cylinder exchange program, contact, Michael Lukas, VP Supply Chain at (856) 464-1068, extension 235.

I'd like to see how much this "core exchange program" is going to cost.

Safety poster? Didn't they already have those issued out?

Rhino already does it at Walmart, its only a buck or two more than your average fill. I'll never bother with it, though, as all my tanks are either siphoned or antisiphoned... And an improperly installed anti-siphon was the reason for all this...

Ah well, its definitely a step in the right direction. Good to see a major company being proactive about safety. Too bad it took a fatality for that to happen.

My respect for KEE just went up. A very good step towards the right direction. Saftey is key (pun intended).

But that's the purchase price, right? If you trade a tank in it should be sinificantly less. I think the one by me sells 20oz for around 30, or exchanges them for under $5.
