NPPL and Texas

NPPL event #4 in Houston Texas is scheduled for September 19-21. All information we have been getting points towards an unaffected event as it looks like the region may be hit this weekend but clear up by early next week. Everything is still on track to be a great success.

The NPPL will continually monitor the Gulf Coast weather conditions. Please check back at NPPL.com for any updates. Our thoughts and prays go out to everyone in the region as we all hope for the best and safest outcome.”

Yeah Ike isn't going to do much other than flood streets and blow down a few trees and power poles. We should be fixed up for next weekend.

Now Galveston is a different story.

Live picture updates of the Houston/Galveston freeways for those that want to watch. Just hit the map controls button and check the cameras box then you can zoom in and click on the camera to see current conditions.

NPPL has cancelled the event, just received an email a little while ago:

Quote:
The NPPL regrets to announce the cancellation of the entire Houston tournament and tradeshow.

In light of the destruction and devastation caused by Hurricane Ike and the uncertain outlook for Houston and the surrounding areas we believe this is the correct decision.

NPPL officials have been in constant contact with officials at Reliant Stadium, the hotels, airport and other key stakeholders related to our event; their assessment is that it could take several weeks before basic services will be fully and reliably restored.

With this uncertainty and the long planning and execution needed for an exceptional NPPL event, we have also decided there will be no make-up date replacing the Houston event.

We hope you join us in sending our thoughts and prayers to Houston and the region as they stabilize and rebuild.

We invite all parties to join us at the upcoming San Diego event at Qualcomm Stadium November 14-16.

Please check back to NPPL.com for updates and additional information."

Well they are using Reliant as the distribution staging center for the P.O.D. for water ice and MRE's. Considering that even though IKE was technicaly a "Cat 2" we got nailed with a an effective Cat 3 storm on the back side. It was the biggest (size wise) Cat 2 ever recorded more like what they expect with a Cat 4 and the sustained winds were just 1mph under a technical Cat 3.

To much of houston is waiting on electricity and I'm sure there is just not enough Operation Hotel/Motel space avaliable to host this event anyways. To bad though.
