Patents are good because the inventor, ie. owner of the patent, has the right to make the profit from his invention and/or good idea. Trhat's what challenges others to think of something else never thought of before. Or you can build of the existing idea and pay royalty on the part you borrowed.

Patients are bad if you don't have enough money to patient your idea. Cause then somebody with enough money comes along and patients your idea and charges you to use it.

I think it breaks down the same as any system of rules. If they are used properly everyone wins. But if someone comes along and finds a way to bend or break a rule without being caught, then it hurts the people using the system properly.

Was Sp wrong to patent their own ideas and inventions? Absolutely not. Was it wrong for them to patient ideas and inventions used by many other company that nobody had patented yet? The law says no, but a argument could be made stating otherwise.

i should have precluded my statement by articulating that for an individual a patent is a way to protect ones intellectual property. However, as plainly evidenced in this context, a corporation has used the law to manipulate an advantage.

All said, I think we are on the same page.
