Yes, I believe the drop makes the "feel" of the gun better.
I played the cold A$$ game as it was bought. It just didn't feel right.
Don't the get me wrong, once I got passed the hopper ordeal, it was a fun day.
Just that little bit seemed to balance out the gun and make it just a little more compact. I opted for the lapco drop. It seems to compliment the form of the blazer than anything else that I have seen.

I've been keeping links to cool 45 grips with an eye toward getting a set for my Blazer.

Here are a few I've found:
http://www.alumagrips.com/main.taf?p=2,1,2,4
http://www.truivory.com/oneofakindgrips.htm

The alumigrips are very high-tech looking.
Tru-Ivory grips are just the opposite - classic, old school. They even make them in mammoth ivory, for a premium.

I was thinking of making my own set out of bloodwood or Purpleheart... it isn't difficult, just time consuming with hand tools.

EDIT found another link: http://www.grips4guns.com/pistol/colt/gov1911.html
They seem to have wooden wrap-arounds like the aforementioned SP's. They also have silver-plated brass models!

Here's a nice set, but 80.00 is a bit steep

Very Nice. I did not like the duckbill until I put a 16oz CO2 tank on it! Very nice fit.
