Xmas present potential - Hurc!

The wife really surprised me today. We were talking about what we wanted for our birthdays (we're 5 days apart), and I had given her a list with nothing over $85 (Blazer pump kit) and the rest various parts and such ($20 each or so). I then jokingly mentioned that I didn't include the $400 Invert Mini at the local shop, to which she said that would be too much for a birthday, but would be possible for Christmas. Long story shortened, if she can pay on it periodically I could get something less than a grand, say, oh, I don't know - a Hurricane perhaps?!

So here I am, browsing through the PPS sub-forum looking for info on Hurcs. What I haven't seen so far are any opinions on whether it's better/cheaper to find a KP rifle and send it in for conversion (~$510-560) or to just find a proper stock and trigger group (~$870). Seems it would almost be easier and cheaper in the long run to find a stock and trigger group as KPs have been going for around $300 - 470. Is this everyone else's opinion?

Also, what are the recommended additional things to have done to it? Does it come standard with the laser engraving on the stock or is that extra like I'm thinking that it is? I always liked the "Got Wood?" someone has on theirs.

Now to find someone local that has a Hurc so I can give it a try before letting the wife know what I want for Christmas. Heck, even a used one would be great as long as payments could be made on it (hint, hint, hint...). Thanks!

The Palmer laser engraving is "free", as far as I know, as it is basically free advertising for the shop. I'd say that barrel wedgits are a necessity these days. I'd ask for the input of our resident PPS wood experts, Drum and Al, for best advice.

Currently the price works out pretty close either way... Performance has been talked about alot... I believe the consensus was that us mear mortal's couldn't tell a difference..

The bigger part of the decision is the barrel now... If your local paintball hangout is always using small paint the stock sheridan barrel may give you some grief.... Also unless they pull the barrel off during conversion you may only get one wedgit....

The stock engraving is if you ask they would be happy to put it on for you

As for keeping it under a grand... If you keep it a simple Hurc that's easy, once you go for something a little more exotic it adds quickly... You should see a new Hurc on here in a week or so

I agree with Jimmy, I ended up paying all told $1,145.00 for mine, and that's only slightly modified from stock, with a 13" barrel, spiral port, and black powder coat. in all honesty, the wait is worse that the chunk of change shelled out, and the tug of war that occurs over KP's, stocks, and trigger groups. You could easily pay it off before it's done, as it takes upwards of 3 months to complete anyways.

Well, that is more than a slight deviation from the standard there, Pinto.

The powdercoating alone adds quite a bit to the price of a new build as it requires a silver-soldered gun chassis that generally gets nickeled before powder coating is applied.

I can't wait to see it when it's done.

well, ok you got me. I was just trying to illustrate that even with a few alterations, you won't pay much more than a grand.
