This will buff out...right? Pics first, story after. http://i995.photobucket.com/albums/a...PPSbarrel1.jpg http://i995.photobucket.com/albums/a...PPSbarrel2.jpg So I picked up this barrel locally. $50, I thought it was a pretty good deal for a Brass PPS AC barrel with single porting and freak bored! I put it on the S6 today and I could not miss! This thing shot laser tits extreme!!!!!! Last game of the day (even decided before the game started.) Playing some air ball, I shoot out my opposite, then the next guy...and as I pump my gun and start looking for the last guy the barrel falls off!! I thought it had just unscrewed. But when I looked down I can still see the insert sitting there...and the collar of the barrel is still screwed into the gun? WTF?! yeah so...the barrel snapped off right after the collar. Really strange. I didn't bang it on anything or tork it in any way...I just pumped and POP, off it goes... SO. Anyone think there is any chance at fixing it? Or am I just SOL? |
I think it's fixable, not sure if it'll be pretty, but it's definitely fixable |
Thinking of sending it to WALZ if he thinks he can do it. Off to PM him now. |
the freak boring must have weakened it. It would need to be reinforced for sure! Did you try duct tape? |
Yeah, freak bore + existing stress point (unchamfered step) = fail. I'd be willing to bet if you put a freak in there that you didn't mind ruining, then slid some tubing over the top of it that was the same OD as the "step", you could probably braze/solder it all together and it would still be relatively straight. Then again, for the $60 or so, could just wait til Palmers has a barrel sale again. |
Those brass barrels are just too damn heavy for the thin wall that freak boring creates. That, and the material's too soft to not resist deformation at a weak point. You're SOL on fixing it and keeping the freak bore. But a reasonable solution may be soldering the barrel back together with a Ty Mcneer brass freaksert in place. |
Yeah. Thought of that. But I don't have an extra insert to sacrifice. Oh well it was fun while it lasted. |
Just buy one. It's a 95$ barrel. You can save it for $30. Or sell it at scrap value. (I'd buy it.) |
Stilgar check this out. Auto Cocker : Palmers Pursuit Shop, Where Custom Still Means Something |
Palmers is doing a 30% off sale. Contact them for one of their brass inserts. |
