Ketchup! It does not work as well as Brasso or wheel polish, but it does work.

Someplace I read that you could use chocolate to polish things. Never tried it though.

Brasso can be found at most walmarts for a couple bucks.

Auto Wenol.

For barrels

Auto Wenol and the long long 12 gauge shotgun polishing rod that has a plastic scrub brush on the tip and cotton softness the whole rest of the length. Remove plastic scrub brush part and slip that sucker right in the barrel tube. Super super shine.

Internal or External?

Internally, I use a ghetto barrel refinisher I made. All it consists of is a piece of round metal (I used 3/8 SS tubing, wooden dowel will work too), a piece of 0000 (I think) steel wool, some tape to hold it together and a decent 1/2 drill (cordless or corded). Stick it down the barrel and polish away. Be fast at it will take a lot of material off quickely...

Externally, nothing beats in my mind steel wool. Can make the ugly beasts into shiny works of art quite quickely.

Looking for all Canadians on MCB, building a list by province. PM me to be added to the list.

Chocolate is a great polishing compound. With a bar of chocolate and a soda can you can start a fire by polishing the concave bottom of the can to the point where it can reflect the sun and focus it enough to light kindling...

yeah, I tried the ketchup with a battle swap attached to a cordless drill. It worked pretty well. I'll try some of that Brasso next and see how it works.

Steel wool? Do you think it will change the inside diameter of the barrel, slightly?

Homemade brass cleaners/polishes:

Lemon juice. Add salt for abrasive cleaning.

Vinegar, flour and salt. Make paste... great polish.

Ketchup. In a "squeeze."
