Need some help with a Hurricane

I just picked this up last week, but sadly know very little of about it. I was hoping you guys could help.

There is a small leak from the ram, around the ram piston. It only leaks when the trigger is sitting forwards. When I pull and hold the trigger the leak stops. Which makes me think the seal around the piston is warn out. Is this something I can fix or will I have to replace the ram? It doesn't look to complicated to swap out. Is it a tough job, should I just send her to Palmer's to be taken care of? I have no problem with wrenching on markers, it just makes me nervous when I have no experience with them.

Before you take it all apart, perform the "Drum Dunk".

That's a nice looking older Hurricane that you have there.

The ram mechanism of the Hurricane is a non-repairable unit. The good news is that, once you get a replacement ram, you can install it easily enough, possibly without even having to pull the rest of the gun from the stock.

That said, chances are that your older Hurc may be coming up on needing a re-build. An older Hurc, especially one that has had an extended period of no usage at all will typically need all new rubber seals and so forth in order to function as perfectly as designed.

If you send your Hurc back home to Sacramento, it will come back to you with a new ram and all new O's.

Good luck,
D

nice hurc!
don't sweat the ram, easy fix. Just make sure to set your bolt link distance correct after swapping rams.

Or as Drum said, send her home for rebuild to be good another 15-20 years!

My Hurc was "born" in 1992 and I just sent it in for it's first rebuild/servicing ever. $100/16 years is only $6.25 a year.

Edit: that's just 1.7 cents per day.

Thats less than a cup of coffee a day! You can't even help Sally Struthers for that much.

I say thoroughly clean and lube first. If that doesn't perform the miracle cure send it back to Palmerland for a proper rebuild. It's so worth it!

The ram was defiantly leaking; there was no way around it. So I finally got off my duff and ordered last week. I received the ram and installed it yesterday. The hurc is running great.

When I called Palmer to order the ram I also asked if I could update the owner's info on it. And while at it they checked into the history of my hurc. I was informed that it was "born" in Aug. 1994 and that the last time it was at the shop was Dec. 1994 for a leaking airline.

I was really surprised to hear that they were concerned and interested to know how it was running and that all was well with it. You have to love great customer service and a company that cares about the quality of product they sell!

Tomorrow will be the first day taking the field with her!

Thanks for the update.

Please give us a field report when you are done.

Cheers,
