| Delving into Satinism | One was built from the ground up- it was easier for me to find a stock and trigger group than a KP. The other was an ebay purchase of a converted KP2. I agree with Drum's sentiment about hurricanes and their roots. Honestly, I'd shop around and compare prices of a conversion to that of one with just a stock and trigger group. If the cost of the hurricane conversion plus price of the KP itself is greater than the cost of a scratch build, plus trigger group, and stock - then go with the scratch build. What can I say? I was thinking of the cost.

| Just some more options for you to think about. When requesting a convert, keep in mind the stock KP-DF flaws, when building your dream. The large-mouth DF I would suggest removing, as well as other mods. That's why many go with scratch build and others take a phoon for the conversion. Using the stock KP will not equate to using a phoon or going the all-out scratchbuild. I have had scratchbuilds, Phooncanes, and KP-Conversions. I personally view them in that order, with KP-conversions as the lowest of the three. Of course, you can make the KP-convert equate the others, if your willing to pay more $$$ for things to be replaced. Find your breaking point, if your rebarreling, porting and replacing everything, you might be better off selling the KP-DF and finding the stock/trigger group to send in for the scratch build. I always laugh at this picture: Which is the KP-convert? |

| No sweat! I also feel that I must comment on the KP conversion evaluations above. First, no lesser light than Glenn Palmer acknowledges that the resulting performance comparison between a conversion and a scratch build are too small to be perceived by a Human being. Second, I once had two IDENTICAL Hurricanes, one of which was a converted KP with original Sheridan barrel and the other was a scratch build with a PPS barrel. For some time, I shot them together and invited others to do so also. I was never able to perceive any difference between the two guns. No-one I ever let shoot both guns ever found a measurable difference. So... considering a KP convert to be in any way less desirable than a scratch build from the point of performance at least, is just silly. You can consider me an expert in this field if you wish.

| And now this thread got interesting... I don't have any experience with PPS, and I can guarantee you no one at my lowly local field will have any I can tinker with. Jeramie and Brewtt, what would you say are the KP convert's shortcomings? |

| MCB Member | I just had one built and the price difference was between $250-300 if I remember correctly. I decided to go with a scratch built because my KP was worth more to me than that. If I decide to sell the KP, I can make up more than the $250-300 that I would have saved using it originally. |
