Hurricanes

Hey there. As I'm sure many of you have seen in the Sheridan forum here, I just acquired a KP-3 (or a late model KP-2 DF, still not sure). I'm debating getting it Palmerized vs. just converting it into a Hurc. I know once it's Hurc'd, it's another KP gone, and that aroused the question: How did you Hurricane owners (who ordered new ones) get them from PPS? Did y'all just get a scratch-build? Convert a 'Phoon? I'm just wondering how many actually converted old KP's.

Thanks!

I converted my first Hurricane - it was a KP2. I had a new barrel put on, spiral venting, and a female Stab - shoots phenominally, sold it to Poisonpill.

For my next one, I'm getting a Typhoon converted - it saves a little money, and I don't have to wait 6 months to get it done.

If it was a BNIB KP, I'd say don't do it, hold on to it and you'll make money if you ever sell it. My KP was a basket case off of E-bay, the barrel was trashed, and it was not in very good condition, so I had no qualms about getting it converted. I'm getting my Typhoon converted because I really wanted another Hurricane, and I just can't get used to the double trigger after shooting Cockers for 4 years.

My hurc is a KP3 covert. But my KP3 was parts only. No value per say. But think of it this way. I have a pump kit for mine. so I can go either way. semi or turn off LPR and use as a pump.

My KP is in played, but good condition. If it was a trasher, I wouldn't hesitate. But as it stands, I'm rather on the fence.

There are thousands more KP's than there are Hurricanes, my friends. You are making a much more common gun into a desirable, collectible and rarer gun when you convert a KP to a Hurc.

Another, closely held secret around here is the simple truth that a stock KP is a mule on a modern paintball field. You can get as nostalgic as you want, but unless you have found yourself a pump-only game to play, then you are only being foolishly loyal when you take on semis with a stock KP.

Can some people do it? Of couse, but that is not the issue.

So... abandon those thoughts about being personally responsible for preserving one more factory stock KP. Believe me when I say there are plenty of them around that are in better, more museum-like condition than yours is in. Check out C6quad's collection if you do not believe me.

Your only real decision, I suggest, is what sort of gun do you want to use in your game. A semi-auto Hurricane is a beautiful thing and it will hold it's own on most any field you will find. Some foolishly loyal people even play speedball against the electro-ropers with these. Still, it is nowhere near as perfect for paintball as many of the newer guns. They are lighter, faster, smaller and easier to shoot. If you don't believe me, try a Blazer.

Maybe you want a super nice pump gun? Palmers will do that for you as well. Over the years, they have perfected ways to make Sheridan guns better than they were designed to be. Simple as that. If you want to keep your KP3 looking EXACTLY like it is now, PPS can still make it a better gun with their Performance Tune service.

So... do a little dreaming and design your perfect gun. DO NOT be constrained by some feeling of responsibility to future generations of stock nazis. The Antiques Roadshow will get along just fine without your KP.

Cheers and good luck. This is a fun process.

My Hurricane and the 2 I owned in the past were all scratch built from the ground up.

That was beautifully put. I was following this thread with disinterest until I read your post. Now you have me actually wanting to acquire a kp just to convert it to a hurc instead of having it built from the ground up. You should go into poiltics . . . or at least write their speeches.
