Go to a gun store maybe? They might have boxes of the appropriate size kickin around.

Check with the local bicycle store. A fork box should be about the right size.

Go to a music store and ask if they have any cardboard boxes from guitars. They're long and thin but you could frankenstein one (double layer it) and you won't have to remove the stock.

Actually if you go to a U-Haul store, I know that they have a lot of irregular boxes for packing things like lamps and stuff. Give them a try.
