Latest holy quest: I want a 1DMKII N

Well the urge has bit me, I want a beefy, big, heavy Canon. Been researching getting a new body for 6 months now, looking at mostly the 7D's, 5Dc/5DMKII, 50D/60D's and few Nikons..... But awhile ago I got to play around with a 1DMKII N and 1DMKIV at a CPS in Hong Kong and loved them. It's the sound they make just makes me get all wet and happy inside. I feel like I could club baby seals with the body alone.

Price point is better than all the other camera's I've been looking at too; used they are very affordable too. Sure it's only around 8 mp and 6 year technology, but 8.5 FPS and one of the best AF systems on the market makes up for it easily.

So if anyone does see a well price 1DMKII or 1DMKII N, let me know. I am on POTN often "questing" for one!

(Note: I still love my 500D. No plans to sell it)

i just actually bought a 1D Mark II. just waiting on the mailman now. Got it for 675 from POTN. 9/10 condition. <30K clicks. Coming with strap, OEM battery that holds a good charge, box, all cables and manuals. I have the same exact mind set as you, even though the technology is older, it still holds it ground and is priced right.

The II and II N are tanks that perform very well. I have 20"x30" prints on my walls from these cameras and am amazed by the quality. They ae pretty tough to beat when factoring quality and price. I'd take these over the 7D or 60D any day of the week.

By the way, there is a guy selling a II N locally: Canon Mark II/n for sale . I could help with making pucrhasing and shipping arrangements if needed.

I don't mean to be a Debbie Downer but to me a camera that big should have a full frame sensor in it. Plus, it's nice to have a camera that you can throw down a flight of steps but the truth is, most quality camera bodies will outlast it's technology.

It is however a nice camera.

I shoot using both fullframe (5DII) and 1.3x crop (1DIII) bodies and in my experience the difference is negligible unless shooting the extreme focal lengths. Otherwise, the standard to medium telephoto focal range between the two is typically a couple steps forward or backward.

I enjoy having a bit of a crop factor; a lot of my pictures are animal related from a distance (I don't like being too close.... was charged last year by a Grizzly Bear....) Having the 1.6x factor on my 500D is nice for this. The 1.3x on these 1D's will still be a big help to me compared to FF. Also not inculding the newer 1D's and 7D's which is way out of my price range (I am about to drop the money on a 70-200 2.8 or 70-300 4-5.6), there is nothing else on the market that can do 8.5 FPS If the 5Dc or 5DMKII could do it, I'd change my mind.

Thanks for the offer for help, but it will be a few weeks before I get really looking (overseas still). If you keep your eyes open for me though that would be great!

I love the 1D's...they are super tough and super fast. I almost got one but I decided to save for a 60D instead. The lack of video recording isn't going to be practical for me.

I have the 7D for video but honestly dont use that option at all.
Taking pictures is where it's at and the 1D AF is just beast compared to 7D
