First DSLR

I think I am going to look into the Canon rebel series. I don't want to be pushed away from photography by 10000000 settings on the camera (basically overwhelmed early on), but I want something I will have room for improvement and to learn more. I have heard good things about the rebel series for those wanting to break into photography (beginners).

I posted a thread last night, but deleted it after some thought.
Advice welcome.

Oh boy.. here goes another hobby....

Canon T2i should be more than enough camera for you. Plenty to get you started and plenty of room to spread your wings.

Wait for bigballa, he loves Canon cameras.

Pretty soon a nikon user is going to show up and argue that nikon is way better than canon

Does nikon have a comparable camera to the T2I (price-wise as well)? The only reason I am thinkin canon is because I hear the user interface is a bit more beginner friendly.

Honestly, the interfaces are pretty simple on Canons. When you are first starting out, your not really looking for all the strange and wonderful things buried in menus anyhow.

Once you've spent a few hours behind the lens, thing start to come pretty quickly regardless of brand or model. Don't sweat it.

A rebel makes a fine camera BTW. I've been using 2 rebels for the past few years and never found them limiting once I started to actually understand a little bit about photography.

Good to know, thanks sparky.

Any thoughts on: Newegg.com - Canon EOS Rebel T2i Black 18.0 MP 3.0" 1.04M LCD Digital SLR Camera w/ EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens

I don't know anything about lenses yet.. So I suppose there will be a nice learning curve coming soon..

I've owned Canons before in the film days and I'm often handed Canon Digital Rebels to take photos at parties.

I prefer the Nikon interface.

Can't help without a budget.

See this thread: It's time to upgrade

A good place to start is to read KenRockwell.com: Photography, Cameras and Taking Better Pictures he has a section on recommended cameras that is good.

At the end of the day, you'll do fine with Canon's entry level Rebel. I'd try to steer you toward the Nikon D3100 and the 35mm 1.8 DX lens. But that's just me...

Honestly, a used D40 off Ebay with the same lens is all you need...

Yes, yes I do

I really don't think you will have an issue with canon or nikon. I prefer Canon just because I find the interface much more practical for my style of shooting. I like being able to access all of my controls with one hand without taking my eye off the viewfinder.

I shot a few rounds with a D3100 today and it was nice, just not what I prefer.

So after lookin into em a bit, the D3100 seems to be the equivalent to the T2i (ish).
