I just figured that if I want to do photography for a profession, knowing film would be a good thing. Would this be a okay camera to pick up to just dabble in the film world with? Fujifilm Fujica AX 3 35mm SLR Film Camera with 1:1.6 50 mm Lens | eBay Thanks  |

Not a bad camera but you can pick up more well known brands for peanuts now that everyone is going digital. If you look a bit you could find a Canon T70 or AE1 or maybe even the ultimate beginners film camera the Pentax K1000 complete ready to go for probably not much more than that ebay auction. Not to mention if you buy into Canon or Nikon depending on if you own a DSLR already you don't need to buy all new lenses

That's fine but what do you have for a digital? Look at keh.com for used gear, they're a reputable site and you can usually get away with buying bargain level equipment.

Pretty much any manual focus SLR will be fine as long as it's a reputable brand. The less popular brands have the benefit of cheaper lenses. Just make sure it works before you buy it.

i loved the simplicity of my ae-1 but never used anything else... the only thing with at least some of the older 35mm cameras is that if they break, its cheaper to just buy a new one if you can even find a place to fix it.

Those are sweet, OM's have notoriously nice viewfinders. They're also very small.

Maybe instead of 35mm you might want to look into a camera that shoots in 120? It's a fun format to shoot in and it's still used by portrait photographers (the ones I know at least). Cameras that shoot in 120 are definitely more expensive than 35mm cameras though.
