| Straight 6 DID Bust!  Join Date: Jul 2010 Location: Pace, FL | Critique this photo please!  "silence" I don't know how many of you guys read the FroKnowsPhoto blog, but I've been a fan of Jared's photo contests that he puts on weekly. He sets the theme and you shoot/submit something somewhat related, then people vote for the winners. Anyway, the theme this week was "silence" and this concept was the first thing that popped into my head. I wanted a super grungy style portrait with the tape over the mouth symbolizing someone being silent. This was one of the pictures I took. gear used- Canon 7D Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS v2 Canon 420ex speedlight off camera as a slave using a modifier made from printer paper. Thoughts? |

I like the picture, but to me I think of "fear" instead of "silence".

But I thought the theme was "silence" not "fear"? If you said "Hey, I am doing a photo contest and the theme is "fear"..." I'd say you nailed it.

You can submit a picture of a roast duck and still win if it's a good photo, it doesn't *have* to follow the theme exactly. I was just going for something different. When you hear "silence", you think of a quiet beach, or the p in pneumatics. I was going for a different angle.... thanks for the input! |

I get what you're doing, I just wasn't sure how "literal" you wanted regarding the feeling/theme of the photo. If someone said to me, in one word, tell me what the feeling of this photo is, I would say fear. How outside the box do people go with these themes? Or do people stay fairly linear?

I freaked out when i saw this, it almost looked like the girl i have tied up but its not.  Just kidding...( please nobody quote this) I like it, maybe instead of duct tape her mouth could be sewn shut.

theres lots of videos of holloween makeup and different cool makeup and i bet you could do a sewn kind of look
