I've been meaning to pick up one of the smaller gorillapods to use with my gopro. I don't think I would trust one with my dslr though.

I had my first attempt at some videography with my t3i today. I was really impressed with the 18-55 IS lens. I figured it would be crappier than it is, but IS really comes in handy when you're running and gunning trying to juggle focus and keep up with the action. All the while I was expecting to get capped in the ear by a renter.

I definitely have alot of room to improve. I thought it would be easier than it was, and I'd really like to cut down on the rolling shutter shake while still being mobile.

I also tried a little duct tape photography...the wide-open aperture really makes it an insane challenge. DOF is a sliver.

I liked how this turned out...

The gorilla pod comes in a number of sizes, and the large one offers decent support for a balanced dSLR setup. I wouldn't try using it with a 200+mm f/2.8 lens, but it does just fine with even a long prime. I would trust it far more than a lot of cheap full sized tripods.

The Gorillapod for DSLRs is made up of aluminum and is rated to 11 lbs I believe. So with your 40D and 17-40 tou should be fine Justin.

That's what I figure. I think I am going to pick one up with the included ball head. In a month or two I am picking up a Manfrotto :]

I'm really considering the switch to full frame in the next few months.

I would love to, but now with the new lens I don't feel that I need to nearly as much :]

I'm looking at making the jump to full frame as well. I've had my eye on a 1Ds MK 2 for a while.
