Used and abused: Why a DSLR doesn't survive me

This:

I use my equipment.

Honestly, this is my friends camera, but I helped play with it in the mud (we drew straws whose camera we were going to use). Decided it was a good idea to bring the camera into a mud volcano in Columbia to take a few pictures. Good times.

wow that's nuts. What model of camera is that? shooting in an enviroment like a mud volcano I'd be looking at gopro or contour or something of that ilk. Though with that said if I had money to burn I'd just buy a backup body on the cheap slap a nifty fifty on it and do all the stuff I'd be afraid to with a more expensive setup.

I am all for actually using your gear and not treating it like your first baby, but for use in a mud volcano... I might use a bit of protection:

Amazon.com: OP/TECH USA Rainsleeve - 18-Inch (2-Pack): Camera & Photo

I usually have a couple of these in my kit and if I think a PB game is going to be particularly messy I'll throw one on.

Usually when I mix modern electronics and mud it works out well. Treating equipment nice does not take a lot.

I would look into the DSLR Armour

Protect Your DSLR with Body Armor

looks like that would be fun as hell though

Hooray for weather sealed cameras!

I've had my 7D covered in crap and paint before without any issues.

It was a Pentax K5 BTW. Regarded as a well sealed camera but still.........
