I use filters 0% of the time. I do not do a lot of landscapes so no fancy filters are necessary.

I never used a filter on my 70-200 f4 thanks to you. And luckily never had to experience a straight hit. Just saw your NCPA photos, they're great but I say better players make more captivating photos.

I use my 7D and 70-200 f4 for paintball all the time
I have a small rain cover for it for when it gets a bit wet

What I have found was using the wrist sweat bands on the focus ring and zoom ring
definitely helps with keeping the small bits of paint into the rings


I use a Hoya High density filter for woodsball as most of those kids are pretty trigger happy for anything that moves :P

The front element of a lens is quite a bit more beefy than any filter. A hit won't break it.

I use a kata rain cover on my D300 to keep gunk out of the body.
