I will also say that the 70-200 f2.8 is a brilliant portrait lens. I'm actually running it as a primary lens(with a 50 f1.4 on the side) at a shoot I have today. Headshots at 200mm f2.8 are insanely crisp and the bokeh is amazing. Even though I use this lens primarily for journalism, it's a fantastic lens for portraiture.

This one is actually straight from the camera(a 7D) without any retouching.

The compression is really useful: you don't get the same bokeh effect with a wider prime.

I'd going to say rent one of the 85 mm or the 135 mm. Don't bother renting a zoom if its going to be just used to do a few portraits of people. Might as well get the best IQ you can for the task at hand.

Or say screw it and just use an UW and distort the heck out of peoples faces

Great shots! My next lens will likely be an 85mm of some sort, or a 24-70 f2.8.

Great choices there Josh. I'm actually considering the Rokinon 85mm 1.4 it's all manual but apparently is going head to head with the Canon 85mm 1.2L in terms of IQ. The other lens I've been eyeing that I've heard is spectacular is the Tamron 28-75 2.8
