New point and shoot cameras

Holy crap, I like this!

My parents just bought a Pentax WG3 point and shoot, and this thing is impressing the hell out of me. It has a decent lens, fits in a pocket, is waterproof to 45 feet, drop sale from 5 feet (or something), has a mount for an external filter, and can focus ridiculously close to things. (Like, resting on my hand, lens down, I can see my pores) And it shoots HD video.

This is getting out of hand. I am running out of reasons to use my D300. Point and shoot cameras are getting awesome.

I have an RX-100 (not the new model), I am still impressed every time I use it.

had? something wrong with them?

no problems with mine so far. in fact when i was looking for a point and shoot, canon rolled out a newer model which i foregone for this one instead, because the newer model had rechargeable batteries. i'd rather waste aa on a point and shoot. if i was going some place already expecting to take pictures i'd bring a better camera and have that one use rechargeables instead.

Oddly enough, it worked fine until my parents took it to Vietnam 2 weeks ago. (I had that before I got my D300, it was my second camera)

I'm waiting on two things form a point and shoot
  1. Full Frame
  2. Complete adjustability

They have come a long way in a short time and I hope the technology continues to move forward.

Agreed. Something like the g1x in a full frame variant with adjustability and such would make for an amazing camera and wouldn't need a brutally fast lens for shallow dof either.

No kidding, I can't believe the image quality that comes out of a good P&S these days…. I love the IQ of my Canon S100, almost equal to a DSLR until you get in the 1000+ ISO range
