AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 12-24mm f/4G IF-ED from Nikon

Ideal for shooting large building exteriors, narrow interiors and vast natural landscapes, this f/4 fixed-aperture zoom lens delivers consistent exposure, tack-sharp images and vibrant colors. Optimized for DX-format cameras, the AF-S DX Zoom-NIKKOR 1224mm f/4G IF-ED is a popular choice for travel, architecture and landscape photography; and establishing shots when recording HD video.

The 12-24mm ultra wide-angle zoom design enables a mix of wider angle of read with optical characteristics optimized for use with each Nikon digital SLR.The build and finishing are very excellent, the AF fast and silent, the image is crisp and the colour rendition very cool. The distortion is well controlled.Towards the edges of the frame the fixed focal length 16mm fisheye lens continues to be streets ahead with its ability to render edge detail. It's really great!

You can use FX lenses on a D5300. If the body doesn't have an AF servo (the D5300 does not) you need to stick with lenses that have it, otherwise you'll have to manually focus the lens.

However, when using any FX lens you have to apply the 1.5 crop value (this is for Nikon's, Canon's are different). So a 24-70 would actually be a 36-105.

I get that. You can actually move into a full frame pretty inexpensively with something like a D700. This will allow you to pickup some nice FX lenses which will last you longer than a bosy.

but must be 24 megapixels since want to be able to make great pics from camera. also i could get 7100 for far better price since that one step up from camera i have. since do not want to spend that type of cash on 12 megapixels when i could get for better price for intermediate camera for cheaper price and be 24 megapixels
